Is there a reason and solution for slow mplayer application boot? All I can think of is that it rescans the media cards everytime it boots. And is there a way to load video files directly from the file manager without having to load mplayer first and select the file from inside mplayer? Videos always load into default Media Player which never reads divx/xvid. Any help?

Yes. If you install kmplayer, it does just that. You can edit a config file that I can't exactly remember right now and replace the media player with mplayer. Then you'll watch the embeded videos even in the browser with mplayer.
