Hi All

I have x2 (yes TWO) N900's. First one was brand new in Dec 09 and has subsequently had all the OTA updates etc and runs perfectly well.

The latest handset bought very recently for my wife, was sealed in the box (as new) but needed the odd OTA update and additional apps loaded etc..

Anyway, I came to set up a (pre-existing hotmail) email account on the new handset, and have discovered that I am not able to select either the 'Region' or 'Service Provider' options, before continuing to add account user name and password etc. The panels are shown, but nothing happens when I tap them to try to make choices.

Even with this being the case, I was able to continue and had to enter all the pop/smtp settings for my account manually. This has lead to my being able to download INCOMING mail, but not send OUTGOING mail. (very frustrating).

My main reason for this post is to ask if anyone has ideas on why I am NOT able to select 'region' or 'service provider' in the first place? As Im sure that otherwise, the setup would then automatically do the rest?

Hope someone can help.

If you've updated OTA it's probably a good idea to flash the handset with the UK/Global firmware, it might also be worth flashing the emmc as well, though if you have anything stored on the phone make sure you back it all up to a pc or the other n900 before flashing the emmc.

The reason I say this is that OTA updated have always been shockingly bad and more often than not did more harm than good.

Flash the phone, see if it corrects the issue.

just out of interest while waiting for any kind of response, I ran the standard 'updatde' process in the 'applications' menu. This indicated a further update for Maemo was available in from the list. So, I downloaded and ran the update (resulting in a full automatic handset restart).

Then, I tried to email setup process again and guess what?.... the previously unavailable 'region' and 'service provider' options where now active!! (yipee).

Setup of the new email account then went without a hitch and I can now send and receive without any problems.

Thanks for your rapid reply and suggestions, but I am now glad not to have to learn about flashing firmwear, sumink I currently know nothing about. LOL.
