Contrary to your further protestations, I'd call you a developer. Don't worry, there are help groups available ;-)

Also, not necessarily the next firmware (in fact, almost definitely *not* the next firmware, for the reasons I outlined), but some future Maemo release. It is sensible to assume, for the moment anyway, that any Maemo release will show up on a Nokia device at some point. At this point, we've no guarantee that'll be the N800.

I say demonstration videos of this in Sardine on the net, and I couldn't wait to be able to do that for my own tablet. (without having to install all kinds of unstable beta code form Sardine).
Ditto. And end-users should be excited when all these cool new developer toys allow cool new end-user toys to arise. For example, a calculator on the home screen would be quite cool. Or a countdown timer (for the CTU agent in you...).

Cheers,

Andrew

Videos of Sardine demonstrating cool new features would surely help sales of existing devices through viral marketing - think how Steve Jobs demonstrated the iPhone 6 months ago and the hype that followed!

If these videos already exist (it's not clear from Bernards post - say or saw?) please post a link so we can publicise them to non-believers!

Demos and information on Python home applets:

http://blogs.gnome.org/lucasr/2007/0...ildon-desktop/

I've not seen any other videos of cool Sardine features, although there's been work on composite:

I've seen on http://blogs.gnome.org/lucasr/ this :

Sidenote 2: some people have been asking if Hildon Desktop is available in N800 already. The answer is no. Hildon Desktop is a major rewrite of maemo-af-desktop and will be shipped in the next major releases of Maemo. Of course you could run it on your N800 at your own risk. :-P
Someone know if there is binary available somewhere ?

I'm looking forward to the time when operating system updates don't require scrapping everything and rebuilding application by application.

On a similar note, it would be cool if we created a repository of various "loads." That is backups with the most popular applications like Meamo Mapper, Canoloa and MPlayer. If we had a few dozen different configurations in there it would give people a real jumpstart...especially the newbies. This is the advantage of us all working with the same hardware.

Yes that could be at least some nice gesture to all of us with fried memorycards when trying to recreate our enviroment ;-)

See this thread for info about how to automatically reinstall programs. Of course it doesn't help it your system is already completely destroyed.

rsync is also a handy tool for backing up your home directory to another computer. It only sends the changed parts of the files, so if you combine dpkg --get-selections and backup of your home dir you should get off relatively easily. I haven't tried it myself yet though

If you're using linux and you have your IT OS loaded on a MMC, you can mount the card with a reader and use dd to make 1:1 copy to disk and later restore it to another card.

With the current history of MMC corruptions having decent backups is crucial

Notification has been served...

http://maemo.org/news/announcements/...190039774.html

Ok now we have a blurry screenshot kind of showing nothing! What clues does this Rorschach inkblot test hold for the future of maemo?

Ok at a minimum GTK+ 2.10 and Glibc 2.5...
