Hey guys,

So I seemed to see laggy ui every time and constant screen tearing when moving throught menus fast..

I came to the conclusion that VSYNC is not enabled at all nor is the screen capped at 60fps during the UI

Having no VSYNC is really pissing me off,my question is,is this a driver issue?Or a actually monitor issue?

If this is some kind of a firmware or a driver issue let's please write this in the top list of n900 bug jars

Thank you

I really wish Nokia would release the updated drivers...and let the community implement them if they won't......but that is not very likely=( Really a shame.......

Lack of vsync is a driver bug. Nokia decided that it will not be fixed in Fremantle. See bug 5556. There are also other entries in bugzilla all marked as WONTFIX. SGX drivers are not open source and therefore comunity cannot do much about it. As a developer I can only say it sucks big time - there is no way to make your app run really smooth.

Where did they state that? If it's true, I'm very disappointed.

Nokia has decided that there no ressources will be put into fixing this for
Maemo5, hence closing as WONTFIX."

from what I've read somewhere, it's a kernel issue. They need a newer kernel version to be able to use the newer version of the graphics driver that supports VSYNC. This is obviously a big change for a 'step 4 out of 5' platform, think of all the testing and QA that needs to go with that before they can reliably roll it out. So it wont happen.

But Meego for Arm follows the kernel versions very closely (needed for their cutting edge Filesystem usage) and includes the newest SGX drivers. Let's pray that the N900 HW adaptation team gets all running smoothly before the N900 becomes old HW ...

That's why it would be nice if they just released the binary drivers to the users and let us compile a new kernel that is compatible with it. I suspect there are licensing agreements and distribution issues and a plethora of other excuses why this isn't feasible. My next phone will have an nvidia graphics chip...at least they release good binary drivers frequently. I've had enough of Imaginiation's crappy drivers!

I have read that too. But let me tell you that is not quite true. They don't have to replace big chunks of software to fix a small bug. Vsync was and is supported since computing started. It is not something introduced with latest drivers and latest kernel. It is there. It just needs a fix to start working in current version. And I do not belive it would take much work to sort this out. Nokia is simply lying about this issue and users suffer from that.

It's quite disappointing how nokia decides to shorten the lifespan of the n900 before even it was released...I don't like the iphone but apple as a company even gives there new IOS4 to its 3 year old iphone 3g officially..Instead of updates Nokia gets a new flagship phone every 6 months and throws the other 500 pound phone in trash.

I just hope that when Meego is ported to the n900 it has Vsync
