Well, in a few words: "not stable yet" and I didn't even start applying my patches on it. However after several weeks on it I thought I needed a little break so I switched to Exult, Pentagram and GemRB. When I release them, I'm getting back to stabilizing the Diablo WebKit (I will probably revisit Gio and just port 2.22 back instead of doing it feature by feature when I need them).

At least that's the plan.

Good to hear that Diablo Tear still may get better with time! It remains my favorite browser, even with Opera and a well-tweaked MicroB; all three have their limitations, and I have to choose the right browser for what I'm doing. (E.g., Opera can handle Amazon, which invariably crashes Tear. But Tear displays most webpages better.)

Feature Request:

When tear crashes (which is pretty frequent) and then you start it again, it (very helpfully) lists webpages you were on that it can re-open. But sometimes it offers a very long list, all of which are selected by default. I wish there were one more button: De-select All. Then you could check off just what you wanted and click OK. Alternatively, it would be an improvement if it opened with all the choices deselected.

(Hey, am I the only tear user left?!)

um..well we have Fennec slower than MicroB but with better functionality and Opera faster than MicroB but without plugins and it acts too "mobile"... never used Tear what benefits does it have?

If you're using the N800 or N810, in my opinion it's the best general browser, especially with a few tweaks, mainly with respect to using a few special websites. It's faster than MicroB and it renders most pages more accurately than Opera. Opera drives me a little nuts with its automatic changes in magnification. With tear, in contrast, the page doesn't jump around, and you can increase and decrease the magnification with the volume/zoom hardware buttons in 10% increments. (I think you can change the increments, but it's fast and easy so I like the fine control of 10%.)

Certain webpages I display in special formats created for mobile webkit, like Gmail and Google News:

http://news.google.com/news/i#

I still need MicroB, for example to download stuff or install debs. And sometimes Opera displays a page better.

I also use often use tear with images and plugins turned off; they can be toggled very easily, and it makes text stuff very fast-loading, without looking weird like the all-text browsers (WAP?).

Finally, with all the browsers, if you like reading stuff on the web, I recommend creating a bookmarklet for Readability, as you'll find instructions for in this forum.

I think there was one time where Tear thought that it had improperly closed out like 100 web pages.

I so wanted to take a picture of the screen weirdness it displayed. *lol*

But no Gerald, you're not alone. I love Tear and use it almost every day with love.

One quick question, if I'm downloading something and it doesn't quite take, meaning the whole file didn't get downloaded correctly for whatever reason....

What can I do to completely cancel the download?

I'll go to the download manager and delete it but that doesn't appear to be enough.

I'll keep getting a memory card error until I reboot.

This has happened a few times.

iirc, the crash recovery bug is known, and is supposedly fixed in the source, but never made it into a N8x0 release as the focus shifted to the N900.

Of course not... my N810 still gets a lot of use as an all-purpose stay-at-home web tablet, and Tear is what it runs 99.99% of the time.

It just needs to auto-connect at launch, and a few more shortcut keys from Fremantle's MicroB (like backspace and shift-up/down)... as already noted several times in the last few hundred posts :-)

Unfortunately it has no competition on Diablo :-)

auto-connect at launch? as in, trigger the wifi when tear is first run?

maybe set something else then about:blank as the homepage should do the trick.
