Why are most of the apps cpu consuming......even the battery eye and battery graph apps are consumes cpu.....

if all the apps drain battery then whats the point in using them here since the phone itself has a very bad battery...???

am not being critizising or blaming on the developers

All the developers have done a gr8 job......else many of us wuld'nt have baught n900...with out community there are no apps....

Consumes cpu? How to h3ll you think that apps should run if they should not consume cpu?

Different thing thou is that if there is app that keeps waking cpu up from sleep when you have locked your device. Or if app that should sleep in background uses constantly relatively high amount of cpu.

Do you expect applications not to use CPU? How do you think computers work? Yes, even CPU monitors need to use CPU time to work.

Perhaps your question is, why don't applications use CPU more efficiently?
Well as far as I can tell, most of the applications in the extras repository seem to be quite CPU efficient. If you're installing outside of extras, then you're installing beta software which probably isn't fully debugged.
And then there are bugs with the OS software itself that can cause high CPU usage in conjunction with other applications.

The answer is, of course, not to install any apps if it worries you too much. Alternatively, learn to program and debug the code.

Realistically, the point of having a device like this is to use the apps, so you shouldn't worry too much if it uses CPU - only worry if it uses so much CPU that you can't do anything else on your phone.

i know apps would consume cpu(may be i posted the message in a wrong way)

come on dudes....what i meant is why don't applications use CPU more efficiently.....

i know this device is for hackers and all that stuff....but i just flashed my n900 last week and didnt install some basic apps like battery eye, battery graph, shortcutd, wifi switcher, autodisconnect and am getting a better battery life.....

thats all i wanted to convey.....

Oh dear. So to back up your claims that apps (in general, some, or what) do not use cpu efficiently you should show us some logs and give some information about your comparison between different setups.

Also if you find that some apps might be using cpu not so efficiently then you should inform devels of those apps and not in general say that "some" apps do not use cpu efficiently.

Install stuff one by one and monitor how they affect cpu/battery usage and report to app develeoper if you find something that consumes cpu or keeps processor wake when device is locked. btw. no need to install two monitoring applications (battery graph and battery eye)

There's a bug with PR1.2 that means if you install a menu-sorting app like catorise, then your CPU usage stays relatively high, affecting battery life.
I'm not sure that it's been fixed yet, so don't install any menu-sorting apps and you might get an improved battery life.
