Maybe MeeGo is a lot lighter than we think ie; not only an improvement of Maemo5 but also a lot of "clean up" might have been done with the code to make it a more streamlined OS in the same way Symbian^3 is cleaner than S60? Maemo development has worked in steps which each showing major improvements over previous releases, hopefully more has been done than what is perceived as just a name change from Maemo6 to MeeGo and making the UI "prettier" and adding QT.

I dont say people are wrong about this but could find info about it on european nokia site on n8 specs?

hope it is correct cause BT v3 will save some power too if I remember right
Nokia forum is the place where you always find the whole official spec list.
http://www.forum.nokia.com/Devices/D...ifications/N8/
It's under connectivity.

meego looks too pretty to consume less power
besides, i dun think meego has much to do with power consumption
at stock, all os consume almost the same power
the widgets and stuff later on cause the battery issues and 1300mah is too less
experienced it with n900 -__-

in MeeGo i believe lot of work is offloaded to GPU which should save battery.
Amoled is less power consuming and so is BT3
so compared to N900 there is 3 battery saving Advantages listed already and we don't even know everything about N9.

Android seems to chug battery power even with 2.2's improvemnets so energy/battery efficiency is definetly based on the OS with Blackberry and Symbian being the most effiecient.

Yet we don't have those information confirmed. It is a matter of WHAT IF?
Super AMOLED = Good
AMOLED = Average
LCD = errr
TFT LCD = ERRR
Capacitive Multitouch = Yes
Resistive Multitouch = Hmm Okay
Resistive = ERRRR

It is possible that this state that we don't have a clear confirmation with regards to this so called N9 is the real deal and hardware specs is still below Nokia skirt hidden behind its underwear.

One most importantly will MeeGo ever reach "Successful" state in 6months to 1year? Any OS that won't reach it's popularity (at least a million sold both Nokia and Intel total) in 6months then will pretty much won't be in a year. Android reached its popularity slowly but after 6months their sell rising up dramatically. Not to mention IOS2, it sold more than 1million uni in just 6month and rapidily gaining in number.

So the question is will anyone risk another 600pounds, $650euro, $700USD, or %1300NZD for a company well known to abandoning its newly released device 6months after? Not to mention no applications in the Ovi Store, and very buggy app store.

I'm sure you're wrong.
If you meant the most efficient OS ever then you got to credit the VIVID black and yellow screen. The most simple OS ever, the size is less than 0.5mb lol.
Fact I don't even know the name of its OS!

This thing last a week with heavily use without the need of recharge!

It also did very little, and when not transmitting sat asleep 90% of the time. It's amazing the battery life you can get out of a device when you reduce its capabilities and carefully design its operational envelope.

Smartphones are expected to have a much wider range of capabilities, the N900 in particular is expected to be PC-level. If I cut off data services and let it sit unused 90% of the time, I'd get tons of battery life out of my N900. Isn't that defeating the purpose of getting one?

whats shocking is Nokia developed a brand new battery and made it only ~1300mAh when they already have the best OEM battery on the market from the E72 1500 mAh.

Battery drain mostly from 3G cellular data, the best way to relieve this would be a bigger battery in N9.. they obviously dont care about one of the top N900 complaints..
