I was at starbucks with friends this evening and was trying to use their free wi-fi but unable to get connected. My friend was able to connect using a laptop. Do I need to setup something?

You will see the free node listed under internet connections. After selecting it, it is possible that you first have to pass through a login procedure using the browser (personally I am not familiiar with (S)tarbucks).

I had a similar problem about a month ago at the hotel lobby where we were staying. My wife was able to connect with her N97, but I couldn't with my N900. In that case it was not a 'free' as in 'open' connection as I had to enter a password.

No login required at starbucks. When my friend access the starbucks page you just have to click on the aggreement before proceeding. I just couldn't even load a page. It will give me connection error msg. I even tried the public wifi that the phone picked up. I'll try it again when I go down to NYC.
