I installed the geo location pluggin and then restarted my N900. I still got the same error message you received. Google maps can get my lat long coordinates, but facebook places can't so I don't know if it is an issue with facebook or my configuration on the N900.

Nobody has indicated they have actually checked in. The other posts indicate that they can select a location from a list, which I can do also, it is the actual check in where I get the error and I am guessing you are getting the error also. It would be helpful to know if anyone has made it all the way though the check in process so that their location appears on their wall is we know that it is possible with FB.

If you have PR 1.2 installed on your N900 than microB comes with geolocation. No need to install an add-on. Likewise with Fennec (comes built-into the browser).

I'm assuming the only thing it does is allow you to check in to a nearby location (based off your GPS location) or specify a name for your location since that's what I've seen when I tested it . I'm assuming it works after that (again haven't tried since I have no interest in letting people know where I am) since it had already figured out the nearby places. I'll try sometime this week when I have some free time. Probably on one of the days where I'm going to class.

For some reason it the GPS coordinates work for the "nearby location" but does not work when actually checking in.

Hope your test works then you can tell us what you did to make it work.

One can delete the "check in" at any time including right after successfully getting it to work.

Hi all,

I came with a conclusion with the trial and errors which I did,,,that You can check in one and only case provided you are in Wifi connection rather than UMTS data connection.

This is because when ever you are with UMTS connection,,the cell signal provides us a rough estimate of location base on cell id ,,even the gps wont giv you the exact coordinates even when it is on Fine accuracy .

But when once you connect to the near by Wifi ,,,you can Check in for sure,,I checked some 7 times on wifi till now from firefox browser.

But Laughing Man we all are waiting for your valuable observation and feedback on this.

Thanks

Ok I just tried it at work and you guys are right. It says something latitude and longitude after I click the check in button when using the 2G/3G connection.
