My n810 does surf the web when I connect to my inhouse wifi, however, I am not able to get Email receiving in the 810 to work.
I have loaded exactly what I use for my thunderbird email on my desk pc but the NokIa N810 just will not receive email. It seems like a very simple setup. I have double checked my spelling and ;port numbers. Still no luck. anyone ever get this thing to work???? any maemo that might work....??????

I enabled IMAP on my Gmail account and both send and receive email with that account on my N810. You used the term "inhouse" which usually refers to a company network. In that case there may be some company firewall settings that are causing you a problem. Companies will frequently block some access to their email servers to avoid there use in sending SPAM.
