I have unchecked the tick in the settings "Enable GPS", no network positioning either. However, the GPS icon is still present in my status area (solid icon, no blinking). How can I completely turn it off?

And the "Location" bar in the status menu says "Coarse accuracy".

TIA

You probably have an app requesting location running. Check to see if there's an app running in the background that may be doing it. If it just started happening recently, try uninstalling any new apps and see if it goes away. Good odds it's not a setting issue in the system, but a setting in an app that's requesting position information.

There's nothing in the background. But CloudGPS did hang before that and I have to shut it down. Maybe that's the case.

You might have it set to provide location information to your IM contacts. IIRC you can disable this with a setting in the IM part of the status area.

This issue will be corrected in next release of CloudGPS. The current version does gracefully wait for all threads to finish their work but on Maemo some network stuff does tend to hang forever. Please report issues specific to CloudGPS in its thread because your chances of getting respone reasonably fast will be maximised.
