Well considering that it's not possible to get BB messenger on any other device besides a Blackberry, the answer is no.

so if a BB Pin is exclusive to each BB phone ... what if I BUY a BB ? then the Pin is basically Mine... which means I can use that Pin for an app ..

No. The pin is associated to the device: you get another bb, you get a new pin.

I don't really understand why people are so willing to get tied up by hardware companies (not even *software* companies).

Get a jabber account (gtalk/gmail works over jabber) and you'll be able to talk to your friends/clients/whatever on whatever the hell device they wanna use not what the companies say!

Just my two cents

Regards

Not available on Maemo, but ....

BLACKBERRY CONNECT

With BlackBerry® Connect™ technology, users can connect to BlackBerry® Internet Bundle and BlackBerry® Enterprise Server on their preferred device and access BlackBerry features like email and calendar synchronization.

What is Blackberry Connect. ?

Blackberry Connect is the name given to RIM's licensing scheme which allows other manufacturers to include 'Blackberry Functionality' on their devices. Connect is a stripped down implementation of the Blackberry stack, and so does not support all of the product features that are available in Blackberry.

Originally there were two separate licensing schemes, Connect and 'Built-in'. Connect was the stripped down stack, and Built-in was the full version that ran almost as an application on the device. Built-in never really took-off, indeed in Europe it was only deployed on one device model the ill-fated Siemens SK-65.

Nowadays the Connect model is licensed for a wide range of manufacturers handsets (see devices) which includes Nokia, Sony Ericcsson, Windows Mobile etc.

BlackBerry® Connect™ software brings the advantages of proven BlackBerry push technology to a variety of devices from manufacturers such as HTC, Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson.

That's exactly what I mean, the limitation of people being unable to connect to a Blackberry messenger, or services is not only in device specific limitations also the Pin (which is in my understanding, sort of an identification number?)

so if I go out and buy a blackberry, I have it's Pin ... which means I don't need a "fake" pin anymore, wouldn't that allow the device to use said pin for com between servers?? I guess the encryption associated with it's access to the servers is another blockage ..

I have a blackberry from my office, but I hate the phone .. I want top receive emails and messeges from my bosses on my damn nokia .. and not on that ugly Blackberry... it's so annoying!
