No need to go for editors for enabling squeeze. You can do it on Repositories menu on Synaptic.

Chromium-browser somewhat works well on ED, but Flash doesn't work.

Performance-wise, it is faster than Iceweasel.

I would like to use an ubuntu 10.10 rootfs, but when i try to chroot in the maverick-omap-rootfs it tells me: "cannot execute su: exec format error"! Some people were able to boot from this partition, so it's not the wrong architecture at all... Someone able to help me set up Maverick to use the latest firefox, thunderbird, ooo and others?

Thanks to debernardis, there is now a Google Streetview app for the N900, based on Easy Debian, despite the fact that Google Maps requires flashplayer 10 to use streetview, which the N900 probably will continue to be lacking even after PR1.3!

In this post debernardis had produced a very nice html/javascript page which used to give one access to google streetview through microB even after the flashplayer letdown. But for some reason this recently stopped working in microB, while the other available browsers in Maemo are rather useless because of missing hover mode for the cursor.

Amazingly, in Easy Debian's iceweasel, debernardis' page still works and is fully functional (in my opinion even superior to how streetview works within google maps when it works)! So by creating a desktop item which just opens this html file, Easy Debian provides sort of a dedicated google streetview app, and I've given a short how-to in this post.

Later in the above thread and summarized in my log page one can find how to do even better with the kazehakase browser, which is not part of standard Easy Debian, but which can be installed from squeeze. With that one can have a little faster start-up, and automatically full screen, so that it really looks like a dedicated app!

EDIT: PR1.3 indeed didn't bring flash 10 or even restore streetview in javascript for microB, so it's still up to Easy Debian for helping out here!

Hi folks.

I've been very quiet lately. I'm sorry.

I want to make a new image with the new OO.o but with working audio. Rebhana, do you have a page of "things that should be added to the new image"?

In the meantime, go vote for the testing versions of easy-deb-chroot and easy-chroot to get the versions we've all been using for a long time into Extras.

Have a look at my personal installation log, but in a new basic image I wouldn't include any of the bigger things I've installed. Perhaps rsync, vpnc and tree would be useful smaller additions.

The new OO from squeeze doesn't break sound, in fact, only once you upgrade libpulse0 to the squeeze version, which is however necessary in order to be able to install things like calibre and eric. If you find out how to fix sound with that, please let me know how - so that I, and perhaps some others with elaborate installations, don't have to start from scratch. Feel free to add comments in my installation log!

A fun thing would be the above streetview app of debernardis. If your new image includes kazehakase, a new easy-deb-chroot package could ship with a Google streetview app out of the box!

The easy-deb-chroot package in testing depends on two packages that would also have to be voted up for a promotion to Extras become possible I think:
wmctrl and murrinanightorange.

Lets get enough votes for my packages and see what happens. Sometimes you don't need to vote up dependencies like wmctrl.

Update: I promoted Easy Debian, and wmctrl and murrinanightorange came along automatically, just like I thought they would.

I need one more vote for easy-chroot however! Let everyone with encrypted partitions enjoy Easy Debian!

Oops, I had thought that I had voted for easy-chroot long ago, already. Well, I could give the missing 10th vote now.
