Hi.
When I turn off my N900, it seems like the device starts to reboot instead of shutdown.
I see again the white screen, with blue characters of the word "Nokia", then the device vibrate. This process is repeated endlessly. However the device doesn't shoutdown or reboot, it keeps in this strange status endlessly. So I must turn on the device... so I can never turn off my N900!!!!
Additionaly, when I disconnect the charger from the device, the light indicator continues in orange color. Also, when I connect the charger to the device, the N900 doesn't start charging. This problem with the charger happens sometimes only, not always.
I started to have all this problems a few weeks ago, I was waiting for the new maemo 1.3 update. So, yesterday I update maemo direct from the device connected to a WLAN, however I cannot get rid of this problem.
I tried to solve the problem flashing the new version of maemo 5 and the storage with maemo flasher and .bin files. However the problem continues.
I have thought that could be a software problem, however I flashed again maemo and nothig happens.
Sometimes I reboot the device by entering the command "init 5" with root user. I don't know if this way of rebooting the device could be the cause of the problems, do I have to stop rebooting the device in this way???
I hesitate about a hardware problem because I'm really carefull with my phones, and I bought the phone only 8 months ago.
Please some advices....
Sorry for my english...

These are the files that I downloaded for my phone version (in order to flash maemo 5 PR1.3):
RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin
RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin
Note: My N900 just work fine if I never try to turn it off!!!

the code for rebooting is simply
Code:

im not sure if i get it but did you flash the emmc too??
or just the rootfs??

i faced this problem too but all i did was flash both rootfs and emmc
managing to do so my N900 works perfectly fine now

I flashed both maemo and emmc with the right version for my phone.
When I shut down the phone it seems like the device starts an endless loop, with this process: vibrate, showing white screen with nokia blue characters, then showing progress bar (5 white points with black screen)....
Phone works just great if i never try to turn it off.
Is it a good idea to flash the phone again?

unplug the phone(the usb wire).

[nolo boots as soon as it senses a usb wire connected. it ought to charge the phone even if the battery is completly discharged but also triggers nolo to boot up ]

It seems like phone have a problem to recognize when a wire (data usb or charger) is connected or disconnected....

However the problem is only when I turn off the phone, because when I reboot using (init 5 command), the phone just reboot fine....

Im starting to give up now.

this is the behavior i /do/ see /if/ i have an usb wire connected.

for the flasher:
1. have it in the state device not found waiting. dont stop it. keep that state.
2. plug of the usb wire.
3. turn of the phone(should be posible with usb unplugged)
4. plug in the usb

pressing u while booting might help, for it prevents the phone from going on with booting and waits for a connection(you see the usb symbol).

if that doesnt help:
plug off usb, take out the battery(no current).
put in the battery back in.(no usb)
boot it up. turn out the phone via menu.
plug in the usb. see if it boots now.
if it doesn't boot, press the power button and start the boot.
try different orders...

you should find that in the moment the flasher sees the phone in the right state, it imidiately flashes .

try different orders to get the phone back in a defined state.

using a different usb jack on your pc might help as well(some don't work)

@bakur: try telinit 5
