Hi,
I have had my n900 since February but recently it started randomly switching itself off, re-flashing it didn't help. It is on contract from Carphone Warehouse in the UK so I took it to their repair centre where they re-flashed it again which didn't work. I took it back to them and they sent it to Nokia for repair. I received the phone today and less than an hour after leaving the store it was switching itself off again. I took it back and I've been told that, as the repairs have failed, I am eligible for a replacement but that they don't have any in stock. They don't currently have any guidelines on similar specced replacements to offer but they will know early next week after a meeting. I'm quite fed up with the n900 and even if they had fixed it I would have sold it anyway.

What I'd like to ask this community is...

What phones are they likely to offer as a like for like replacement taking into account its specs and £429 pricepoint?

I'd just like to know what to expect, any thoughts and suggestions appreciated...

The CPW offered to give me a different mobile phone when I was on my 5th N900. In the end, it wasn't a phone problem the CPW had given me the wrong simcard and it was struggling to get network and just booting me off... But when I found out the problem personally, I didn't tell them that

Sorry, bit off topic there. I was allowed any phone I wanted off the £30 per month contract. This was like the HTC Desire DC2. That was the only one that caught my eye, TBH. If you like the N900, and use it to its full potential, there is no other phone out there that will replace it. The next best thing to it is the HTC ones, or the Galaxy S.

So I just stuck with the N900, and will wait till the N9 comes out, then make a huge fuss till they give me that one.

I like, the way you think, I have a broken speaker on mine which is still has 6 months until the warranty runs up. And I plan to do the same . Although I don't rely see the plan working, it's still worth a shot, }:-))

They literally have nothing they can give you besides another N900, since they've yet to create a flagship to replace it.

Unless they want to offer you an N8 or something, which is still pretty silly..

Thanks for the replies. I don't like the Samsungs or the HTCs. I guess the only other phone I'd really like is the iPhone, I wonder if they would swap for iPhone 4 32Gig as that seems to be the nearest spec to the n900!

Hmm I'm suprised you would consider the iphone closest to the N900. Would have thought it is actually the one which is as far from the N900 as possible. The only thing they have in common is the 32gb. One is the most open, customisable phone while the other is the most closed phone with the only customisation is being able to select a wallpaper which is totally covered by icons anyway.

Well... without getting in to the whole argument. I meant that the iPhone 4 with 32gig was closest of the iPhones. I can do without the customisation and I don't have time to learn linux enough to get the most out of it. The biggest attraction is the maps, app store and games... SNES was fun when I was 14 but the n900 doesn't really have much to offer there. Don't get me wrong, there is still so much about the n900 I do really like...
