Gmail can now be used with Imap. If you can't find the switch in your settings, you may have to set the interface language to 'English/US'.

I'm having some issues, though, using it with the built in email app on my N800. Is anyone else trying this out?

I haven't tried it yet, but I would think that gmail+imap is a combination which really exposes the worst bug in osso-email: osso-email ignores the imap 'message already read' flag. So, you have a bunch of messages sitting unread in your osso-email display, and then it just so happens that you are at a desktop and you read the messages with your browser. Or mark them read or whatever. osso-email won't notice.. they'll all look as 'unread' there.

For my work mail I've found that the only way to cope with this is to massively delete off mails as soon as they are read. With gmail the idea is to not delete anything (spam excepted).. which is why I think gmail+imap+osso-email isn't going to be a particularly nice experience. So, for my private gmail account I'll stick to gmail-notifier for the time being.

Thanks for telling us though, that gmail can now be used with imap is good news for those of us looking into combining gmail with other mailers (desktop mailers, and, not to forget, the tablet claws-mail version of course!).

Here's where I found out about it: http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/24/y...its-on-mobile/

The option would be in the settings area where you also find the pop3-settings. It appears to be unclear so far, why some people have the switch and some don't..

Thanks for the heads-up concerning the osso bug! That could indeed drive a man insane..

I wonder how this works with the Tablet email client (or Claws, or in future Modest).

There's an earlier gmail/imap thread:

(in one reply I suggested that the built-in email client would perform badly)

I just tried it on my 770 HE and the main problem is loading the message after the headers had been d/l'ed. I only loaded 50 as it would take a while to load all my gmail. I never got a message to load all the way, even a simple text one, taped on the title and a new window would load but it would never load the page. I am hoping that OS2008 will bring some improvement to this, but that will not help my 770 any time soon. And a side not, I did not even have to turn on the option in gmail to get imap to work, others without the option might try it here is the info
