hi guys, i also got the boot.scr error message but then it was able to boot into Meego no problem. I thought it would've failed after that message but it worked fine and this is my first try, so ya lucky me

I'm using a 2GB Kingston class 4 microSD card btw......i think it just has to be a decent brand. Some of u reported something about partition 3 not found or something?? If i'm correct, this is because of certain SanDisk microSD cards. This is the same issue as NitDroid, do some search or around on NitDroid, or in fact check the sticky topics in the official NitDroid forums, they have TONS of topics about the partition 3 problem and explained why. This should be pretty much the same since they both require custom boot kernels and flashing the image to a microSD card.

works fine as well, boots into Maemo no problem.

the reason is that yesterday when i checked out the Meego 1.1 build on Youtube (the official release), it looked slightly different than what i have, the menu has a few more options i think......however, my version is correct and is obviously from the official Nokia firmware download page, so i'm not really too sure on whether there REALLY is a difference between the one on the repo or the firmware download page.



Anyway it's kinda disappointing, 1.1 being still lame and boring with nothing else usable really. Also, i had 88% of battery life, i've only booted into Meego and ran it for like 5 minutes just then, and now i have 68% battery life left.....

It really sucks in functionality, and eats battery like a pig!
It is disapointing that in this stage there isn't a version of meego that we can try and that it is already optimized

Really? It's disappointing that within about half a year of development, a brand new OS is not end-use functionality-complete and eats a lot of battery? Never mind that it runs from an SD card, which I suspect may have something to do with energy consumption. I may be wrong, but my suspicion is SD card read-write operations eat slightly more power than the ones on the internal chip.

This is exactly why Nokia decided not to support an official upgrade for the N900 (beyond, you know, the other logical reasons). Because you just know there'll be people who'll expect it to be done in months, and will complain about every little thing not being perfect.

It's not done. Get over that. And more importantly, be grateful that the ONLY problems you have is occasional uboot bugs, battery consumption being high, and some functionality not being there yet. This is development software snapshots. It could be wiping entire chunks of your on-board memory, corrupting file-systems, glitching into doing non-stop writes to your flash chips and slowly burning a hole into them, bricking your phones, and forcing the battery to self-destruct through over-charging.

Instead, we got a lovely, essentially working, easy to install package spoon fed to us. And this is before it's even that close to done. And people are complaining about the MeeGo version in question not having met some rather unfounded expectations?

Well I ran Meego on a SanDisk class 2 microSD card.
It ran slow as hell, but it was pretty nice to look around in, I uninstalled it now and am back on the power kernel

One thing I am wondering though, even though I'm using the power kernel, u-boot still shows up in the app manager. Should I remove it?

It's fine, how long do you think WP7 was in development for? And how many times did they let their users try it out?

thanks a lot for this smart tutorial.. it really helped. i'm not a professional for programming and have used linux just 2 or 3 times in my lifetime. but your tutorial made it so easy that i could run dual boot (maemo + meego) on my n900....

well i just want to know if i want to remover the meego now from the micro sd card... you said to type

"After you experience meego and if you want to remove it just run this command in x-terminal:
Code: apt-get --reinstall kernel-flasher
And format the microSD!"

this code i should type in meego x-term or maemo x-term and also if you could help explain what exactly this command will do....

i would like to experience nitdroid with maemo for sometime so i want to remove meego till they realease more stable and fast version of it

The code is meant to be used in maemo.
First you might want to take the SD card out of the device (while device is off, of course!). With no SD card in, the device will boot into maemo just as usual. Then, to remove the bootmanager (u-boot) you have to reinstall the original kernel. The given command doesn't do the job reliable but there are hints on how to restore the kernel and the normal behaviour in this thread. Just look some pages back.
The SD card you can format either with n900 by reinserting it and using onboard tools or by using your home pc and some windows / mac / linux tools.

Since the first line in your picture contains the word "matan" I'm pretty sure you didn't follow those instructions.

Try reflashing the original kernel with flasher.

Current power-kernel (power43 and power44) contains u-boot and there are reports in successfully starting maemo / meego.
