ive had my n900 for around 9months now, and within the last few weeks the screen has been playing up. alot.

I will be using it, and randomly the screen will black out, but the screen is still responsive. so its not like the screen has totaly gone,
for example i can still press the send button if i was sending a text and the screen blacked out.

im pretty much still an utter newbie with maemo/linux so if you want any technical info, i mite need a guide or a little how-to.

just a few last points..
im not using a screen protector.
running global pr 1.2

I had the same problem with the random blackout and as soon as I lock and unlock the display goes on. However my phone took a dive in lake for 30 seconds.

I tried the rice trick and after it was dried the problems started. The I tried re-flashing and so did the people in the Nokia service center. The problems did not go away and the second time they replaced the whole slider mechanism. That also did not fix the problem so they eventually replaced the phone for a new one.

Mine went totally dark forever. The touch screen still seemed to be responding as I could hear the clicks from the speaker but no backlight and no dark images. Nothing was happening with the visual part of the display. I sent it in to NokiaUSA repair point and they replaced the display. That was about six weeks ago and it is running great, no bright spots, very clear and vibrant.

As almost all N900, except maybe those first 300 from the conference are still covered by warranty I'd send it in and have Nokia fix you up.

ah thanks alot both of you, put my mind at rest that im not the only one.

would it be better to send it directly to nokia? since as far as im aware vodaphone have droped it. so i have no idea if they could fix it.

was wierd tho, earlier i accidently droped my n900 and the screen was fine for a good few hours.

This problem arrived when you're charging or not?

And flash to the PR 1.3 could be a solution I think, no?

it just happens whenever it wants to, it can be fine for an hour, or black-out ever 30seconds. ita very strange!

Maybe if you flash your N900 to PR 1.3 (its easy), this problem will disapear...
Do you know how do that?
