12-10-2010:
I went to the NOKIA site and checked out how much the N900 was and noticed it does not have a price next to it. I started asking around and a few people have mentioned the N900 has stopped shipping because of operating system issues. Apparently this is the Maemo to Meego transition and for some reason NOKIA is unable to support this. Is this accurate or am I missing something?

This phone is amazing, I don't understand why they would stop selling it. Another worry I had is the security of the phone. Is there a potential security hole or something in the current OS???

Any comments appreciated.

They're still selling it in the UK anyway, so it's not a global move to stop selling it.

Not sure what operating system issues there are - there's certainly no official upgrade path from Maemo to MeeGo, but there's nothing major wrong with the current Maemo OS (though there's lots of minor issues which we're unlikely to see Nokia fix now).

I'm not aware of any security issues with the current OS. Depending on your use case, there are security limitations (e.g. no remote wipe via MfE), and there's certainly some security issues with any mobile device (once you have physical access to any computer, security is limited, and mobile computers are easier to get access to), but I've not heard of anything more significant with Maemo than with any other system.

Why be worried about Nokia not supporting the O/S when you've got all the support you could ever want here

Be very afraid. GM, following Nokia's lead, is also no longer selling 2010 Chevrolet models even though they were just released last September. GM owners are insisting that they receive the new 2011 Chevrolet at half price because they never updated the 2010 model.
