This looks great, may I ask a couple of questions...

What is power consumption like?
There is a receiver button in the video, can this make calls?
Can this be triple booted with nitdroid?

Thanks

a bit more of a walk through of the steps needed to get this running on an N900 (from MicroSD card anyway for now)

this looks really cool. only thing that stops me from testing it are the instructions
i understand them and could do it but is there no easier way ? all this stuff with the meego image and u-boot would kill my nitdroid.

Do you plan on using multiboot or would it be possible?

Our current target is to have Kubuntu Mobile fully working on the N900 in time for the 11.04 Natty release - so maybe wait until then if you do not feel too comfortable using the instructions

ian_brasil:

I second that. Looks like the instructions are not up-to-date anyway. The URL provided for Ubuntu images site no longer exist. In the Natty directory there are only images for OMAP4. Additionally, theres now a meego image from 5-Jan as opposed to the 21-Dec described there.

In QA POV, its better to force testers to check on prepackaged deliveries, so that errors that arise from inconsistencies of self packaging can be ruled out.
In the lazy slub POV, I would rather have a rootfs.tar.gz

Remember: the easier the deployment will be, the more testers thou shall have

since we are using the meego kernel then using the OMAP4 image should work on the N900 (the OMAP 3 build is currently broken on the build machines). Also the most recent meego image should work - i just did my install with the one from Dec 21 so i am sure that that one is OK
In terms of a prepackeaged image we will have what you want for Natty if all goes well. The Linaro guys are making a kernel for linaro-handset-plasma there is a possibility to use that

This is a bug in qemu-arm-static when you go from a Maverick host to a Natty chroot -seems my comment about OMAP4 is not correct then .

You could either upgrade your host to Natty or just wait a little while and I will try to find out why the Maverick OMAP3 images are not building and then use that when they are.
Thanks for trying these instructions out and helping to make Kubuntu mobile better. I will ping you when the image is building ok
