I'm afraid I might be asking a dumb question but I'm using latest stable release of Kagu (1.0.8) and actually it doesn't play my OGG files. They get scanned but once I double-click on any of them it doesn't do anything (except displaying 0:00 of 0:00). I have OGG Support installed and Exaile Music Player plays my OGG files. Any ideas ?

Do you plan to bring in a feature to exclude some albums from having a downloaded album art ? I listen to many podcasts and Kuga downloaded album art for all of them that actually doesn't fit at all considering it's no album ... maybe I should try to avoid this by putting a "cover.jpg" in each directory ?

Thanks for this Media Player and keep up the good work !

You're probably on an n800, not a 770. OGG only works on the 770 right now because Kagu uses the Nokia Media Player for playback, and you'll notice that OGG doesn't work there either on the n800.

Technically, it's a bug in either the Nokia Media Player or the OGG support files. Practically, we should probably fall back to using mplayer for OGG on the n800. But we don't. Yet. Anyone from the community interested in implementing this? I'm not sure if there is any interest among the current developers to fix this. We mostly use MP3.

Thanks for answering me so quickly.

The lack of OGG support from Nokia on the n800 is really annoying. It seems to me pretty weird that a Linux-based product is not able to play such file format.

The people responsible for mogg have released some new packages to add support specifically for kagu... however I can't install them. Incompatible package.

Just enter red-pill mode before installing. It works - finally!

i have a suggestion to possibly implement in future releases. Sometimes after adding a few new albums the music scanner will lock up. I understand that it is likely due to a bad track, however it would be awesome if this could be remedied to either skip the bad track without locking up, or mark which song was last being investigated when it crashed so that the song gets blacklisted or at least mentioned on the next scanning attempt. An unsuccessful scan by this program renders the touchscreen useless and I end up having to reset and remove the card containing what i suspect is the bad data.

I do apologize if this post comes across as just a big complaint. As a matter of fact, I am very fond of kagu and have completely abandoned canola ever since it was released. So for now, let me thank you for the hard work put into making this program what it is, the best music player available.

That sounds serious. The scanner shouldn't even be capable of locking up the touch screen. It sounds like you've got hardware issues. Possibly a bad SD card? What happens if you put the same data on a different card? Or put the same card in a different slot? (careful, the external slot on the n800 eats cards with older firmwares)

Anything you can share with regards to a new version for OS2008? e.g. timeline, etc...?

Thanks,

ScottRD

Well, considering that the n810s haven't gone on sale yet, we can't really say for sure. But practically speaking the only real hurdle is Python 2.5 from the pymaemo project, and they've already got beta versions available for OS2008. If those beta versions work then there's a good chance that Kagu will "just work".

We'll see for sure when the n810 goes on sale or someone ships us a preview version (no-one has offered yet, so....)
