Midnight Commander lets you file trnsfer into/from other computer
using ftp or ssh

The basics:
GSM calls, Skype calls
Email, web
MP3, video
Taking photos (the camera was one of the best at the moment, but now it's surpassed by the competence)
GPS navigation

The advanced:
Logging by ssh to my personal server
Some Qt programming, nothing professional, it's just to myself
Annoy some my friends that owns iPhone 4 by telling them why N900 it's superior :-p

What I like specially:
The full keyboard!
The Maemo OS and it's openness
The web browser
Easy Debian
H-E-N (for usb host, tested with various flash drives)
Community SSU
I can run Meego and Android on it besides Maemo
Great storage capacity (32Gb + microSD)

What I don't like:
The abandonment by Nokia
Battery capacity (but it isn't worse than with other smartphones)
It could be thinner and with better screen contrast

Ah, ok, if you're just wanting to do that sort of lightweight file transfer, FTP should be fine. And yes, it works over Wifi without any trouble. (The only real downside of FTP is that it is less secure than most other methods...)

And yeah, you don't need any third party applications. I just did it by going into System Preferences, selecting "Sharing" (in the "Internet & Wireless" section), and clicking on the "File Sharing" checkbox. You'll also need to hit the "Options..." button for File Sharing, in order to select the "Share files and folders using FTP" checkbox. Then, just follow the directions below that checkbox to connect to your Mac from another computer (such as the n900).

That was undoubtedly one of the best arguments for N900 I have ever come across

Made me look at my N900 in a warm, fuzzy glow...

You can buy mine, NO issues whatsoever, working pefectly and being used only as mp3 player for past 6 months after accquiring iPhone 4.

Additional Features
1ghz/125mhz high/low speed by powerkernal.
Nitdroid on partition on 8gb Class 6 card. Might remove the card and give u on 4gb card.
leather case worth $40, which covers keyboard in plastic as well so it's protected and you can type on it while still in case.

Anjin: I'm surprised this is still going on. Maybe what you could do is give us the list of alternative phones and we could let you know if the N900 is going to bring you pleasure or regrets. Right now it's almost impossible to recommend any phone to you without knowing your scope, preference, uses, etc. At least when you put it in perspective of an alternative product, we can gauge which has a better performance, faster functionality, applications and support, etc.

A lot of times we buy based on feelings (not people's recommendation), so, we need to establish what's already in your wish list to advise you where the N900 stand in terms of your wish list.

Thank your and for the other forum users for your answers. In the first post I tried to explain what I have and what I miss in the device I own. For that I am trying figuring if the n900 could be the right device for me (I think yes at this point of the thread)
I keep having 3 little things in doubts:
1) if the problem I have with a lot of images on the symbian of the x6 it'd be the same on n900.
2) I like the capacitive screen of the x6 (for its strenght and resistance), I don't like his lack of precision but I don't worry to put the mobile in my pocket without a folder (but not with other objects)
3) The lack of support from Nokia, but I hope that with the community it'll be a no problem.

Why will viewing images on the N900 present the same problems as the X6? There is nothing wrong with viewing images on the N900. It's a much better system on the N900 than it is on s60v5 X6. I've already said this earlier in this thread.

Just buy the damn thing already.
