insert cd to drive in your pc,
power on your compuiter,insert ununtu live cd, pres F2 or F11 or F8 (i dont know which key is attached to select boot order in your pc) , select boot from CD/DVD and wait, ubuntu will load from cd ... when u restart pc, pc boot normal from hard drive (windows).

If your external charger does not charge the battery then for sure you have either dry joints on the usb port or it has detached itself patially and if you wiggle it very carefully and it starts to charge then all you need to do is get the port soldered back onto the motherboard before it breaks off completely, there is a HUGE thread about all this and is the most common problem on the N900..

or I think that much more easy will be found another compuiter with windows, instal maemo flasher on in, connect N900 flash it
