1)First thing I wanted was a good solid case that I could open easily and would protect the screen. Still experimenting with ipaq, ds lite, and some caselogic cases, Ill post an update on the ultimate under $10 :P
1b)After that I add extra repositories for that extra software and hooya!
maemo.org and http://gronmayer.com/n800/repos/ are a good start.
Activate RedPill mode if you're feeling dangerously adventurous.
2)FbReader - thanks to the mighty internets, I either go to http://manybooks.net/
or gutenberg for free books. And then you can find lots of books in english in Russian and Polish sites if you use their proxies :P
There are lots of torrents too with sci-fi and other books. I have about 100 books on my n800 right now.
3)Entertainment - I download movies and watch them in the default player or mplayer. THis is a big topic in itself if you're not familiar with formats and all that.
can be challenging
4)System apps for them console jockey needs!
xterm - a must!
ssh and sshd - a must!
vnc viewer
ping, tracerounte, wlan status, etc. Everything I need. If you need these, you will know :P
5)entertainemnt- lxdoom and battle for wesnoth. Nethack for those good old days.
6)now working on the os 2008 upgrade

i have been reading this forum for a while but only joined after i purchased my n800. i purchased an 8GB class 6 sd card for the moment. i have older 2GB cards around the house i can use with it. i will definitely look into getting the foldable keyboard! i also have an extra DS-lite case that can now be put to good use

basically, with an e-book reader, terminal and network tools, a solid case and a bluetooth keyboard, and some 1-gb cards (I don't like bigger cards - I can get 1gb for $3-5 and they fit a movie or 100s of books)the nokia n800 is a complete replacement for a laptop for me.
What i'm thinking of next is getting a cheap+portable tiny wireless router
that way I can go anywhere where there is an Ethernet connection (I do some computer related consulting gigs every now and then)
and stay current without using someone else's setup and risking compromising my security for email etc.
airsnort and kismet have proven somewhat unsatisfactory for me, but I'm still experimenting with them, so cannot give an honest appraisal.
my only gripes with Nokia tablets are similar to everyone else's-
1)poor usb support- the lack of power-over usb connection, lack of usb devices support without a hack,
2)lack of screen protection
Thus the added expenses of cases, wlan hubs and bluetooth keyboards.
One great thing about running gnu/linux on this thing is you can do remote backups by ssh into the nokia and downloading all your files, including apps.
That way if you want to flash your os to an upgrade but don't want to reinstall all the aps, you can just copy them back and save hours.
I'll make a howto if I don't find a decent one soon.
And if you're not running gnu/linux on your main computer, I would suggest installing a dual-boot debian distro, like ubuntu.
This really powers the usage of the nokia n800 up immensely, as it allows for faster upgrades, painless ssh/sshd/rsync integration, and is a great experience to boot.
The cheapest replacement for a bluetooth keyboard (cost- $0) is ssh into your nokia off your main computer.

question 1 : A guy in some website published an information that N800 playing Divx through canola after the firmware upgrade. It didnt work for me .
How bout you guys? Is divx file playing for you all ?
question 2 : Even after installing MicroB browser , why are we not able to access webmessenger.yahoo.com?
We have flash9 and ajax in microB browser i guess. Then why are we not able to access such sites?
question 3: I am not able to switch from microB browser to opera becas i dont see SET ENGINE option under close as you guys have. A person on this forum tried to help me how to program to get that option but i am not so good in linux. So what will happen if i uninstall this MicroB browser? Will i get the new opera back ?
Please guys reply for all my 3 questions.

If you really want to 'wow' yourself with your new tablet, try installing VNC. It'll allow you to take control of your desktop computer and see it's screen on your tablet.
Becomeroot is always a plus as a lot of the cool things you can do might need root access. Just be careful, you don't want to turn your new tablet into an expensive paperweight.
Installing Canola is a definite plus, it gives the tablet a nice polished interface for playing movies, music, and viewing pictures.
Otherwise, application-wise, it's pretty much up to you. I only have a 770, and the way I use it has changed about 20 times over the past two years. Now it's mainly media-on-the-go.

Lucky for us N800 is the same size as the Sony PSP game box. Best Buy has a really nice "firm" carrying case with an internal screen shield for the princely sum of $11 and change! It's black, zippered, has net pockets in it for your extra SD monsters full of nasty music.
No need to spend big bucks for a case. The case has a big snapclip for your belt loop.
Headbanger Audio UPC 08056 00115 on a blue cardboard peg hanger that says "Travel Case - Etui de voyage" on it.
My Nokia GPS puck even fits in it.
