Going to communications -> gizmo will install gizmo. However I did not find any video capabilities in gizmo even though launcher shortcut says "Gizmo (Video & IM).

Doesn't seem to be working at the moment. It prompted to add a new repository, that worked fine, then it downloaded the app (about 5 MB) and that completed. But the install aborts about 1/3 of the way through. Hopefully they update the package soon to get it working again.

I remember I had a long delay too, I though it had hung and was going to kill it, when it resumed and completed installation. Maybe their server is slow?

so you actually have gizmo (voice, video and i.m working for you on the 800 with the 2008 os? i'm going to try it right now. nope, download 4.23mb, then installs to about the 25% point and fails. application manager claims it's 'installable' though. glad i kept my n770 now. i like the new os, but i want to have maemo mapper and gizmo with us when we go to europe in week. though i have some small issues with maemo mapper i do feel in many ways it's a superior ap over navicore

Being new to Ubuntu I assumed it was just polling until it found the right config, then executed.
Perhaps some of these problems are with USB 1.x.
Other than that hic-up, everything went well.
