How did you upgrade the software?
Is the battery loaded?
When and why do you hold the 'u'-key?
Why do you think you cannot reflash?
Did you try to take out the battery for some seconds and restart the phone?

The n900 is rarely completely dead. Try, unplugging the battery give it a few minutes.

Plus in the USB cable. put in the battery, press U and turn it on.

Are you sure your n900 Is fully charged?

make sure hte battery is actually working first.

Have you restarted your computer?

Second, in windows, check your device manager and make sure there are no "?" (question marks) under the USB section. If there are, uninstall the unknown device, then remove the n900, restart the computer and try again.

Follow the guide very closely and get your battery fully charged before you attempt to flash... no way this can fail because your only problem is a failed os update.

Very easy to put right !.
