It do work now
after I install the python-simplejson

But the font seems not so clear and it's hard to use fluently

but what does this mean"please install pysqlite 2.4 for better progress dialogs"?

I'm not aware of a pysqlite 2.4 package for maemo - so I'm not sure what the "better progress dialogs" are like. I get the same message.

I agree that the interface isn't great when running it as a normal user. keynya is working on improving the interface. And as I've mentioned above, running the program from the terminal as root results in a more agreeable (to me) interface.

As far as usage goes there are intro videos and documentation available on the official Anki site.

ok, sync is working fine now!

what i did:
0. inserted my login-data in menu->preferences->network
1. i deleted the decks from the server (trough webinterface)
2. i copied the most recent version of my decks from my pc to my phone and opened them with anki
3. after that i selected sync from the menu for each deck and it worked just as expected.

very practical - thx a lot again!

Ok all, I found an easy way to run Anki as a normal user with different interfaces. It took way too much research for such a simple solution. :P

I found my solution in the Qt documentation here under the "Member Function Documentation" section.

The solution? Simply run anki from the command line with the -style option and specify one of the default supported styles which according to that document include motif, windows and platinum.

An example:

"anki -style motif"

results in an interface like this:

I haven't run into any problems yet running this way - though I certainly haven't put it through heavy use.

Edit: Additional styles available with the version of PyQt4 that I have: Plastique, GTK+, Maemo5, and Cleanlooks

Edit2: I'll note that after trying all the styles I've decided that I like Motif the best. It's not necessarily the most visibly pleasing but it seems to handle the exploded main menu the best when the list of items gets very long. It would be nice if the main menu would maintain the categorization used on desktop versions of Anki instead of merging everything into one long list.

Hi,

Although I kind of like the standard look of anki on the N900, the "motifstyle" is really useful even without changing anything. For the next version of ankiqt900 I could make two desktop shortcuts, one with the standard style and one which starts ankiqt900 with the motif style. If you want to have an other style just tell me I can implement it.

cheers,

keynya

Update 1: Maybe we can have a look into one of those style files and make one specifically for ankiqt900, where we change the text size a little bit. This way I do not have to change ankiqt itself which would simplify the update process if a new version of ankiqt is released.

Update 2: I tried to find the location of the style files, but was not really successful. If anyone has some informations about these files please tell me.
There is a new ankiqt version in the repos (1.2.7-6). I added python-simplejson as a dependency and changed the desktop shortcut such that it starts anki in the "motif" style.

anki is in version 1.2.11
http://anki.googlecode.com/files/anki-1.2.11.tgz

ankiqt900 in version 1.2.7

Is an upgrade of ankiqt900 planned ?
or is it possible to get rid of the warning "a new version is available" when we start ankiqt900?
