Thanks for the fine program.
You can transcode your DVD in a directory of your Hard Disk with a utility like Nero Recode (or others free utilities) without compression, selecting only the english track. Then you can select the vob files in the destination directory.
Or you can use directly mencoder (but is a little bit complicated )

I've been having issues converting some of my videos, specifically .mkv files with Vorbis audio. When converting with two passes, it stops about halfway through the second pass stating that there are too many audio packets in the buffer. Some work arounds I've come up with either involves dumuxing the .mkv file, converting each stream seperately (audio with Audacity and video with N800 Video Convert), and remuxing the streams or converting the file with AVIdemux. The problem with the former is that it takes too many steps and too much time while the problem with the latter is that it takes more time to convert and the conversions don't always wind up being optimal for my N800 and I have to run it through N800 Video Convert.

Is there a reason that this converter doesn't play well with Vorbis audio well and can it be fixed?

Others files are .mkv?

If you convert the same files in one pass, you have problems?
My software use mencoder for conversion.
Unfortunately mencoder have some issues with Matroska files, i can work on it, but i don't know if i can fix this issue.
Thanks for your feedback,

With one pass, it also stops half way in that pass with the same message.

When converting .mkv files with MP3 or AAC audio, it converts without any issues. That observation and the error message stating that there are too many audio packets in the buffer led me to I believe the problem is with Vorbis audio. So, I demuxed the problematic .mkv file, converted the Vorbis audio to MP3 with Audacity, remuxed the file as a .mkv container, and ran the converter and it came out fine. Another thing I noticed when running Vorbis audio in the converter is that the console notes that it is constantly dropping frames.

EDIT: I also wanted to add that I noticed that the converter was also dropping a lot of frames for .mkv files that have more than one audio track. In the case that I noticed this, the file has two AAC audio tracks. Demuxing the video (which was H.264) and one of the audio tracks and remuxing them fixed the problem. However, I would prefer not having to create an intermediate file to run the converter. Or at the very least, I would rather not have to remux the streams.

After playing around with this and other converters, I've noticed few things. First off, .ogm files with DivX and XviD video and Vorbis audio go through the converter just fine.

Second is that I believe that the problem that I am having is an inherent problem with MEncoder. After trying out MediaCoder with one of the .mkv files I am having issues with, it too stopped approximately halfway through the conversion. A manual run of MEncoder via command line using the same file yields the same results.

So I suppose until the MPlayer team finds and fixes the problem with MEncoder, this problem isn't going to go away. So for now, I'm going to have to demux the Vorbis audio, convert it to MP3 or WAV, mux the video and new audio, and convert. What a pain.

Hi, thanks for your reply,
if you, or someone else, know a command line tool (open source or freeware) that can convert mkv files, i can add this utility in VC, or i can try to automate the process (demux-convert-mux-convert).

May I ask a question?
Does it support to convert RMVB->AVI?
It always show me "ERROR: Could not open required DirectShow codec drvc.so." when I tried to convert RMVB files.

I have converted many rmvb files without problems.
Are you using the mplayer/mencoder included, or you have replaced this files with a old version?

I downloaded the full version 0.8.4.0 and installed it.Then 'open' the rmvb file-->'Add'-->'Start',and the error message displayed.Should I do some settings to make it work?
Thanks for your help
