I wonder if your power button is stuck, hence the reason why it tries to boot as soon as you plug in the USB or charger.
Get it to a repair centre first before you decide it's dead. It may just be a case of releasing a stuck power button.

The reflash seems to have been successful, according to the status messags you posted. And yes, it should charge while in USB mode. If you see the yellow light flashing, everything should be fine at least with the charging process.
