I have been busy playing with my new N800, and I love it!

Anyhow, I am thinking I got one with a defective screen? When the white NOKIA screen is on during boot-up, there is an area along the right sided margin that seems a little "off" to my eyes.

I can't see it though after that; with the desktop, etc. Has anyone else noticed this with theirs? I suspect it may be the only flaw so far in my perfect device.

It's due to poor design of the LED backlighting, lots of us have noticed it

I wonder if anyone's done any hacks to improve it (adding some extra diffusing material, or something?)

This belongs in an FAQ somewhere. Comes up over and over again (I guess because nobody searches before posting).

Sorry if this has posted before.

However, a quick search for titles with "screen" in it did not produce any results which described "my defective screen".

Yup, the search functions on boards like these leaves something to be desired. Perhaps when we get bigger, Reggie will invite Googles bots in and we will be able to search more effectively using plain ol' Google.

Hm.

Just typeling in "backlight uneven" yielded 6 hit threads...

I can understand how ticketicketing "screen" would not be extremely helpful, so maybe -- just maybe -- it's not so much the searchbox that's at fault here. I'd call it PEBKAC, but of course you never know if an Internet Tablet user was sitting down...

Only 21 hits for "screen" in title.

I wish I was better at searching.; knowing which words to use, etc.

This seemed the obvious way to begin search?

Actually, my potbelly is between myself and the keyboard.

There's only so much a computer program can do for you. In this case, search works extremely well, provided you tell it what to search for. It may not be as advanced as Google search, but then, it has a lot less to search for.

My experience has been that if the first (and seemingly obvious) term doesn't yield the wanted outcome, it pays to think about less obvious wordings.

In any case, it's mile better than running the risc of annoying better members by asking the obvious; we're all real psychoes, you know...
