OK, this is going to sound crazy, but let's try this. Type:

ls /home/users/.canola/youtube/videos -al

I know, it's something that's off the wall and never been suggested before, but humor me.

:-) :-)

are you at the $ prompt, or the # prompt?

Hey, briand's instructions are backwards.

You typed this:

ln -s /home/users/.canola/youtube/videos/ /media/mmc1/youtube/

You need to type this:
ln -s /media/mmc1/youtube /home/users/.canola/youtube/videos

I didn't catch it that those instructions were backwards.

The format is:
ln -s <source> <destination>

Just tried that. There is supposed to be a space after -s isn't there?
I also typed a space after /media/mmc1/youtube was I supposed to?

reply is ln: /home/users/.canola/youtube/videos: No such file or directory

thanks for your help but still stumped.

Yes, there are spaces, they just don't show up well because of the fonts.

I'm thinking maybe a bad mv earlier might have done something.
I know you don't want to, but you''re going to have to do some ls's to find this out.

Let's start with:

ls /home/users/.canola

And see if there is a youtube directory there.

If not, try the same with "user" instead of "users".

p.s "ls" can be your friend. :-)

OK, with your help, I may be getting somewhere. I hope this is instructive for other members as well.

When I typed ls/ home/users/.canola the reply is No such file or directory

But, when I typed ls /home/user/.canola the reply is a list (of directories or folders?) that looks like this

canola.db prefs version
covers theme video_thumbs
plugins.pickle tmp youtube

So, should I follow your previous direction (suggesting I reverse the source and destination) using the work "user" instead of "users" ?

thanks

Yep, that's it.
It looks like the videos directory is already gone.
So you should just have to do the new ln, with the word user.

p.s. Yeah, it's /home/user/.canola on my tablet.

No prob. I run a constant state of kernel panic at work myself. :-)

Just a thought, could you edit your original post that had that to show the correct ln format, and also change the "users" to "user", to save some other newbies.

Although, I think it's been pretty educational, so maybe not. :-)

Take it easy.

desiv, thanks for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate it. That seemed to have worked...at least I didn't get an error reply.

However, I still get a "no space left on device" error message far too often when trying to play a video. Not sure why as there is plenty of space on my MMC card and that's where everything should be cached if I did eveything correctly.

Guess this is one for the developers.
