Oh hang on, do you mean taking gimp and putting a decent (and tablet friendly) UI on it, or taking the gimp UI and using it for something else?

I interpret Quim's remarks as the former.

There's no reason a different menuing system could not be developed for the GIMP engine... one that is tablet-friendly (indeed, tablet-oriented). I would envision an extremely context-sensitive approach using popups, flyouts, ribbons and/or similar approaches assuming they are supported by Hildon (I don't have expertise there).

Hmm so looks like its built for 770 (armv5) and 800/810 (armv6 + vfp)

So is there any way to use these repositories to build an Ubuntu Mobile system on a MMC partition? Perhaps start with Johnx's Debian install and then do an apt-get dist-upgrade with the appropriate line in the /etc/apt/sources.list file? I doubt it could be that easy...

Is this the kernel? Would that get us started?

That would seem much too small to be kernel source, and if it were a kernel, and thus device-specific, it wouldn't have the "_all.deb" suffix, right?

Yup, that's just the package that takes the kernel source, compiles it and makes it into a nice little installable .deb. I assume that Nokia's kernel will work just fine with Ubuntu though, just as it does with Debian.

Out of curiosity, what are people wanting to see from ubuntu? Besides the "ubuntu mobile" stuff, is there anything else from ubuntu you prefer over Debian?

Well, now that I've managed to get Debian booting on the tablet, and I've managed to get XFce and Gimp running natively, I can report that pressure sensitivity does not work. I'm pretty sure this is just because I don't have the touchscreen drivers or the wrong X-server up (I couldn't get XFce to start directly on Xomap, only on Xephyr running on Xomap)

By the way, Mojo Ubuntu's numbers are pretty depressing at the moment. Look at the number of "complete" packages vs the total number of packages in Ubuntu. Sigh.

Grumpy ARMv5EL:
Complete: 2205 out of 13586 (all from "main") = 16%

Frisky ARMv6EL-VFP:
Complete: 2306 out of 12769 (one from "multiverse"!) = 18%

I see why they aimed at an earlier version; fewer packages and a better compilation rate.

I DON'T want the Ubuntu Mobile stuff at all (I don't want a mobile interface, I want Xfce/Fluxbox/EvilWM/IceWM like I have on my "normal" boxes). I just want a working keyboard and the ability to drop to the CLI at will (in other words, what I hope to accomplish with Debian when I get around to hacking at it).
