I'm actually going to take it with a very large pinch of salt as i logged on again to a webchat under a different name and the operative said that there is no date set.

he went on to say no one at mpd would have said that..

Annoying yet unsurprising.

I spoke to someone on the phone and he also said they "expect" (not guarantee) to have them in around Mid October. Thought he said 16th but perhaps it was 19th, I have a terrible memory for numbers.

He also said they are getting LOTS of calls about the N900 but that when they get the first shipment in they should have more than enough to cover all the pre-orders.

I think basically Nokia has said the target is mid October but there is nothing set in stone. Anyone claiming that date is simply repeating what Nokia has said all along, nothing new and no guarantees.

I ordered mine on Monday, Combie 35 (think - 300mins 300 txts) & WnW.

I've ask two different occasions so far, when they expect the be able to dispatch, first one said 1st Nov, 2nd one said end of oct.

I'd exstatic if it were the end of oct, that'd be in time for my bday!

If anyone's interested, I double checked with MPD.co.uk, to see if they were still giving the same release date. And was told that they were expecting stock on 30th Oct (my birthday!!) and the have to connect or activate them (think it was one of those two words they used) before sending them. But the ones dispatched on 30th should be arriving at doors as early as Sat 31st (Royal Mail dependent!). The phone not activated on 30th will be done on Mon 2nd and hopefully should arrive Tues 3rd Nov.

It was quite a detailed specific response, which gives me hope that they know what they are on about.

Really can't wait for this phone haven't been this excited about a new phone for a long time. Plus it'll be cool to see how it works with the QNAP server I'll get getting around my birthday!
