Where are the millions of Ipad users? I don`t see any on the road, too embarassed to show their new toy?....probably....or maybe they just left it home because it doesn`t fit in their pocket.....

I don't think windowed UI is optimal for handheld slate computing. Maybe a tiled version could work (a la ratpoison/ion), because managing overlapping windows in a sub 12" screen just has more complications than advantage. (small mouse-optimized ui designed for big screen just don't translate well to handheld slates).

Just how stubby ARE your fingers? j/k
I've been using my convertible netbook for a year now, and I never had any problems with using Win7 and Ubuntu with only my fingers (actually, occasionally I tend to forget I even have a stylus since I only use it with MyPaint and for notes taking).
Getting a good onscreen keyboard on Ubuntu was a bit of a pain, but the one in Win7 works like a charm and, thanks to it being configurable, makes for a very nice finger experience.
If it wasn't for battery power (4 hours on medium brightness setting and the thing is dead as a dodo), it would even qualify as an iPad alternative, for the only reason it's thicker than the aforementioned is because it has the hardware keyboard attached. Which, btw, doubles as screen protection in my pocket.
And of course it has billions of "apps" to draw from, actually useful ones at that, not the hundredth [fart/vuvuzela/add other sound here] app and the thousandth [facebook/twitter/add other website that's natively supported by the various finger friendly web browsers on Win7] interface app.
(Sorry, ysss, you know I couldn't resist on the last part. It's just that, even during those times when the iPhone was my only mobile device apart from my old Asus tabletbrickPC, I've never even felt remotely compelled to buy any of the apps from the app store. There's a couple of nice games out, but to be true, unlike a lot of people I never bought a mobile device for playing games - which admittedly might sound strange coming from someone who's addicted to playing Albion on the N900...)

You need to hang out in different places. Just ran into a mob of iPad users at Barnes & Noble.
Lol, yeah I hear you. Many of the apps are just shallow shells. There are some gems to be found (even for games) but they're the exceptions.

Ok, if I'm getting this right, you mostly use the convertible in notebook mode until you absolutely need to take handwritten notes or make sketches? That's how I used my convertibles too when I had them. The ui was pretty aweful for 'normal' usage.
I'll have to try out win7 again to get an updated feel for it. Thanks for the tip!
I find the reality for win-based (convertibles) to be: "yes, it can do everything the iPad can do and more" ... But if you have to use it (away from your desktop or something), you'd probably not enjoy the experience. At least it was like that for me. This is the huge ui/ux difference that i've found.
You know... Reading from that thread about android's web based app creator, I think this is actually a testament to apple's low barrier of entry to app development.
But yeah, unfortunately you can't have an appstore policy that censors 'bad sh*t'.
