I already know what will break. An awful lot of people, who'd otherwise be attending the November conference will either be footing the bill themselves, or not coming at all.

Other things which would have broken recently: Extras, because of the bundling of Qt 4.6 in PR1.2 and the experimental versions in Extras for PR1.1. Attila took the lead on talking to the right people so that the packagers of Qt in Nokia moved to a naming standard which emphasised which version developers should in general be using.

If any of tekojo, qgil, yerga, thp, gcobb or many others said "you're right, the council's pretty useless", I'd be paying a lot more attention to their specific concerns and their suggestions (and they would have some) for improving the situation. Can the people who joined earlier this year, don't develop and haven't been involved in community activities beyond the forum stop acting as if their opinion is equal. It's unfair, and harsh to say it, but it's really not.

Hang on crown77.

It all comes down to engagement.

Would you say trolls are members of the community? We have several who have been highly active lately, "contributing" post after post to threads here. But I don't equate activity ipso facto with membership. The latter entails some sort of constructive engagement. It doesn't have to be coding. It doesn't have to be testing. Heck, the way I see it a poster starts toward true membership when they simply Thank the posts of other contributing members.

But the simple creation of a forum account certainly doesn't cut it. However, defining what it takes to transition from Account Creator to Member is largely subjective.

For me you are a community member just as everyone else here. But the reality is that you really get more out of the community when you are active and contribute positive things to it. That's how things work within any community.

Anyway. I'd miss the council if it was gone. Keep up the good works lads.

You're overestimating how much the opinions in this thread bother me. Yes, they're annoying, but seeing a good bunch of deserving people get to the conference as their reward for the effort they've put into the community counteracts the annoyance of silvermountain et al continuing their campaign against the Council (that suggests a level of organisation which, of course, is lacking: I'm not suggesting this is an Anti-Council Council. No, everyone knows it's the Anti-Council Cabal ;-))

I get respect from the people I respect; I don't care whether or not I get it from people I don't.

This less-than-useless thread is the result of an individual's frustration with their own ineffectualness. Very sad, but all too common.

Well, many people invested their spare time in Maemo and they did that for the community as well.
Seeing some community members complaining about their effort in a non rationale way, would bother me as well.
I wouldn't care and let it go, as surely they are not understanding not even a fraction of what these people did and are doing (otherwise, hopefully, they would have been more polite) and how.

But it hurts. And it shouldn't be like that.

Questioning the Maemo Council is fair. The way it is done, is stupid.
