If you had developed the application 100% on your own time and effort, I'd say just go do whatever you want with it... but seeing that the community (well, a few prominent people here) had given quite a bit of assistance of some fashion, I'd say that it'd be nice if you take that into account and 'give back' to the community (or those people) somehow.

Then again, it's all up to you

Btw, going "the Ovi route" introduce yet another infamous 'pain point' that many of us have experienced. It's not available in all countries (yet?), their payment system had a few issues, on top of a few niggling UI/UX issues...

Best of luck, mate.

I'm thinking to leave OVI way: too many interrogative, too many problems...
I'm consider two alternative road now:
A- Give it FOSS and wait for donations.
B- Again FOSS but with something a bit annoying (a pop-up that appears every x times or something in text field) removibile entering a code. This way have IMO bad and good point: good ones are that you can test it and choose if and when donate. Bad is that implementing a such things requires too much time (and again I prefer use my time for add features) and there is a cost for maintein a little server for code authentication. In addition this way add "brainy" things that I dislike.
And perhaps someone can fork fastsms to remove the "protection" (ugly word)

@ysss: As I said before code will be available first or after. I can add that if MohammedAG, people that helped me or others well-knowed developer need the code asap, I can give source-code when it will be ready.

I don't think you'll get any favourable result any way if you are looking to make (a little) hard cash for you efforts.
  • Publishing by OVI will not make you any money
  • Nag screens will only annoy people and force them to either delete the app, or install from an alternative source
  • Donateware will only earn you at best a couple of hundred quid.

The last option will provide you with immeasurable karma and convey a lovely warm feeling across the community. I feel that Maemo's never really been about money, rather how far can the hobby platform be pushed. It's come a remarkable way despite the presence of negativity from those frustrated with what they have and unable to do anything about it.

If there's ever another coding competition - enter the application ; I'd hazard a guess that it's bound to win it's category.

LOL I'm waiting a new code competition since I release the last version of fastsms (hope that yes!no!no! can't join again since he won last edition :P )

A pair of hundred of euro...sounds interesting

I don't think that publish it on OVI give me no money. Why you said this? Three euro are really too much? Ok, but please don't complain if software house never (or quite) develop on N900.
Nag screen are annoying, but "hey, it is free". In italian we say "volere la botte piena e la moglie ubriaca" that in english is something like "wanting your cake and eat it too".

Quick reply...
If you have any extra space on the keyboard, you can put donate button here. No annoying prompts, just small continuous reminder that this program is free. Just my two cents.
And Great Thanks for releasing it open and free!
And thanks to moderators.
And thanks to the people who created tags:
realsportcars, keyboards want to be free

I don´t like that idea and I think that people will find it pretty annoying, specially for people that will (and soon have) donate. Just my opinion of course.
