@abill: what are you suggesting? That we turn this into a microsoft/windows-phone friendly forum? Well good luck with that. You'll be your own forum, maybe with ericsson.

Even if they continue with N10, it will be MeeGo based and has little to do with maemo.

What i am suggesting is to wait and see where Nokia are going with Microsoft as you may well find it short lived, i am not a lover either that is why i went off on one with MeeGo because i could see this day coming and prayed that they would kick in big time with MeeGo.

I am at a loss to know the future of anything right now and i am sure everyone is in the same boat but be assured i am NOT a fan of Microsoft mobile systems in any way or form unless they pull a miracle or 2 and get either or both Maemo and MeeGo off the ground big time.

I will watch the N9 because it may well prove to be that successful that Nokia can run with it and any similar future devices, this will leave everything well within reach of this community as it is at present without too many changes if any.

One thing does have to change though and that is development from this community because quite frankly it has been a kind of a shambles in the organisation part and hence why Maemo never seen the light of day it could have deserved.
EDIT and the reason i said that is i always believed the FULL source should have been given to this community to endeaver development, something Nokia did wrong, was very unfair to expect devs to work blindly as they did.

No you are wrong way of thinking and i will explain why that is within my capacity for once.....

Nokia designed the N900 and then decided to throw its operating system to this community for further development.... ok.

What Nokia did wrong was to design the device knowing full well it had closed components because of the manufacturers they dealt with meaning that from the off it was not 100% open.

For anything to be developed software wise i can tell you here and now and will argue this with any god on this planet that to write software of any kind or form, what your writing too MUST be 100% open to you or you can not write to that hardware ! it is as simple as that !.

The N900 was destined to failure simply because of the closed components and a very very bad decision to make within NOKIA, that is my point ok.

This is a thread named "maemo.org > Talk > Talk > Community > [Council] Council_Update-July_2011" and it has the tags "community, winding down".

What i have said IS on topic from what i see as i do not want this community to close shop because of lack of interest.

Many lessons can be learned from mistakes and the biggest mistake this community made was to rely on Nokia from what i can see as it is now being classed as "winding down".

Wrongs can make rights if you apply the lessons learned from past mistakes but i guess it is down to how this community deals with its mistakes.

Anyhow that is enough from me on this thread.

Tags have nothing to do with determining what is on topic. Unless things have changed, anyone can write a tag.

Well, at least they'll be making SOMETHING people will want. Assuming they didn't TOTALLY ruin their brand name.
