Perhaps your light bulb will glow after you understood your lack of any useful details whatsoever. Are you going to provide an elaboration or do you prefer to stick with the previous post?

I have to argue to that the Nintendo DS feels pretty good to hold and if it had a keyboard instead of a screen in the middle and a wider screen at the top, it would be perfect as a tablet.
Oh, if only someone had thought about this before.

But wait... What's this I see at the bottom of this post? A link perchance, to some quaint Internet place where wishes are occasionally granted? Can this truly be?

Hmmmm.... good to see everyone getting along so fabulously.

I'll weigh in though; I don't mind shared data/comms ala USB, PCMCIA, etc., as long as there are multiple slots; combining them makes a single-slot device like the N810 even worse.

If you must have clamshell, look at the Pandora; there's expected to be a lot of similarity there, and the Pandora design is actually done & public. I see clamshell without flip-to-tablet as a drawback vs. slider for general purposes, though I can see it as beneficial for e.g. gaming controls.

Edit: I thought I could get that out before you did for once, Karel!

Well...

1. Wifi chip that can do injections and be an AP.

2. Make the thing bigger than an N810. I prefer the 770's size and color over my N810's. Not to mention I forget how great that d-pad is.

3. Hard cover and design like the 770 But... well, keep reading.

4. Multi-touch, sunlight readable display. Why? Because if Nokia is going to move into a more finger oriented UI (and all signs say yes) then I'd like to be able to do more with a simple touch. Rather than going into a menu or clicking a hardware button. (ie, zoom a' la iPhone.)

5. No. built. in. memory. card. That sucks on my N810. Worst idea ever.

6. Infrared. My old Dell Axim X30 had it and it was so cool to replace all my remotes with my PDA. Besides, it's another low-power way to communicate with other devices, such as phones and game boys.

7. Yes, clamshell would be rather nice.

8. If it is a clamshell, an outer display would be rather nice, too. Most cell phones have a little one displaying the time and date. Some can even start music and such from that display. I think it would be nice to have one.

9. Graphics acceleration.

10. Different models. Nokia puts out different models of a certain phone for different uses and areas. Ie an N900 is basic, N910 has 3g, N920 has WiMax, N930 Has 3G and WiMax. But, all the models should have a hardware keyboard. It really is a life saver.

11. Out of the box support for AIM, MSN, and other instant messaging protocols. I really like the built in client, but the rtcomm installer is just not fun and it takes up more space. Not to mention that even if you remove it, the icon stays in extras...

12. Two cameras. Maybe some of those nice Zeiss optics Nokia is throwing around, eh? 5 megapixel facing out, at least. And a 2 megapixel facing the user. Come on, you can get a $200 dollar phone with those. (Maybe not with the Zeiss, though...)

13. Marketing! This new tablet is right for general consumer, hm? The more users the (merrier!) more impetus to develop cool stuff to keep those paying customers happy. It would be so cool to see an ad for the N900 on my TV

14. Love. I know the devs and the maemo team put lots in, but the top suits needs to give the tablets some. I'm sure if they put another good and well funded R&D team (or something...) on we would see stuff on these babies like we never imagined.

I know most of these (all) have been mentioned before somewhere, but just my thoughts.

I sincerely hope that Nokia reads through this forum and this post and actually listens.

Holy ****! There it is! That's the kind of form factor I want in my Linux tablet/system/whatever! SELL IT TO ME NOW! ...it isn't for sale yet, is it? I can't seem to find a place to actually BUY one.

That's all it is. A wish. I weep.

Expect september. There's a pre-order mailing list for the brave.

Or the, you know, terminally stupid. Needless to say I signed up.

Yeah. That's me too. I bought N800 immediately when it came out. Everyone else watches me to see if it's any good.. then they all rush out to buy it if I'm still happy with my gadgets after a few weeks or months. Now everyone around me seems to have a Nokia tablet after I'd already had it for ages. I might wait until I can at least see one for regular ordering or purchase, this time. But.. MAN! That's exactly what I'd like. It's even got the faster processor.. the clamshell.. two slots.. touchscreen.. OMG.. even an OpenGL 3D accelerated GPU! it's perfect with the exception of the RAM, which I'm to understand they really can't help since it's OMAP. And I'm not sure what to think of the window manager/GUI, since there doesn't seem to be a solid confirmation for it... but so far.. everything else makes me pretty darn happy--even the price-point!

Sorry--I've loved my Nokia N800 since the day I got it back in February of 2007 but I'll drift to the product and brand that gives me (the customer) what I want. Now they just need to actually SELL me one.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that what I want is:

1) start with the E90 (love the keyboard layout)
2) key feel/ergonomics of the E71
3) Maemo, of course
4) T-Mobile-USA 3G support (bonus if it also does AT&T 3G)
5) UMA/Hotspot@Home support
6) Bonus: if it has 2 SIM card slots, and can send some traffic (ex: data) to one card, and other traffic (ex: voice and SMS) to the other.
7) Have an extended battery pack option for it
8) If it doesn't already have a picture camera as nice as the E71's (don't recall), give it an upgrade to that quality of camera. (I don't care one way nor the other about a chat camera, so "do whatever" there)
9) All of the E90 and E71 bundled apps (calendar, todo, data sync, etc.) ported to Maemo
10) Mac iSync support (I'll assume Nokia's standard PC Sync would be done as well, I'm just saying I want to see iSync support as well)
11) Sync to Google (and Google Apps for [your domain, education, enterprise])
12) Bonus: if it can Sync to Thunderbird/Sunbird support on Mac, Linux, and Windows
13) inside screen: touch screen, physical resolution and size same as the N810, virtual resolution (external or remote displays, etc.) higher than that.
14) outside screen: maybe a touch screen too ... or maybe even a full face touch screen with no keypad; I don't mind a virtual keypad for number dialing, as long as I have a real keyboard inside for messaging.
15) some people have complained about the hinges on the E90 being a little ... like working a 3d puzzle; instead of each hinge having 2 joints, just make them have 1 joint, so imagine that the hinge pieces stay fixed relative to either the front half or the back half of the device
16) It has been said the E90 doesn't need a kickstand because the weight of the keyboard/battery side of the device keeps it from falling over, and I think that'd be great. No annoying kickstand blocking ports.
17) hopefully a microDVI port, in addition to miniUSB client+charging, and maybe also a microUSB host/OTG port
18) dual micro-SDHC card slots

They'd have to increase the dimensions a bit, I bet. It'd probably be length and width wise as big as a N810*, but thicker. I'm ok with that.

(maybe slightly wider, for the hinges)

I think that'd pretty much cover my desires on the N900.
