Switched off the 'auto-turning' since I really wasn't making any use of. Problem stopped. I'd guess it was to do with the phone getting activated while upright and accidentally tapped - for me at least.

Not heard any more about the phones that make random calls while on the table though.

I thought this was a bit silly the notion that the phone would call random numbers with out being touched but the other day I had a person call me and tell me I had called them a couple of times. I have never seen this number before or knew who this person was. The only possible reason I can think of is maybe my phone dialed a random number perhaps from the web browser when it was opened? very odd.

Someone posted earlier in this thread about google voice having a bug calling people.

do you have google voice?

Could it be linked with calendar event or alarm?

No i don't, it wasn't even a number I have saved in my contacts or recent calls. My best guess is maybe it was a number accidently dialed from the web browser. Just thought it was odd that a random person said im calling them when I know I haven't.

As long as simply nobody files a *good* bug report in bugs.maemo.org that summarizes the useful information in this thread (when, how often, which providers, SIM card always inserted?) and drops the noise and jokes, there's not much going to happen from Nokia's site, I'd say.

Check your service provider for that supposed call. see if you can get an itemized list.

was that phone call to a number in your country or state or city?#

what apps do you have installed? eg openssh, vnc-viewer, etc
did you enable red pill mode? do you have root access?

anything you can tell us that you have done or installed could help identify the problem.

My calling issue turned out to be not related to the N900 at all.

Andre: As far as I can tell, nobody has any good information. This is poltergeist territory...

The symptoms so far have been: one or more friend(s) / acquaintance(s) call the reporter and tell them that they're calling back, because the reporter called them and hung up. In the most mysterious, "classic" form of the story, the phone shows no signs of having made the call, either during or after the call. Whether the call shows up on the provider's logs is unclear, but mostly it seems to be that the provider's records are missing these phantom calls, too.

How would you write up such a bug report?!

Beyond giving us a nice, solid bug report, if someone can identify a mechanism by which the N900 can somehow make calls the cellular provider cannot detect or track, I predict a surge of interest in the phone.

I'm still waiting for my N900 to begin making phantom calls. I'm so lonely.

I have identified such a mechanism! The only problems are:
  • the phone can only make these calls when not in use,
  • the phone's user cannot be alerted in any way,
  • the calls are to random people,
  • the phone will simply hang up after making the call.
I have tried to upload a package to do this to extras-devel, but the Autobuilder shows no record of it being uploaded, it appears and disappears on my Application Manager's downloadable application list randomly and then when I install it, it only shows on my menu when I'm not using the phone.
