I do not understand why Nokia is selling very expensive devised, but without possibility to upgrade it? It no make sence.

I am still thinking that N900 is grate device, but if in next year or two Nokia will not bring Maemo 6 and other functionalities to N900 it will be my last Nokia device. Just as I did with SonyEricsson`s smartphones.

Regards and I hope Nokia to change its mind and start act as real friend to his users.
The suspect, on the nokia attitude, is that they created an open environment supposing that it would grow automatically with the userbase contributions: no need to develope programs = money saving. We will resolve this suspect soon.

Now there is not even a carholder for N900. Bull ****!

Maybe we should add the following solution to this Brainstorm:

Nokia, let us Beta test this new Ovi Maps with all the bells and whistles for Maemo 6, since Qt already runs in Maemo 5 and we can be really gentle and objective with the feedback... honestly!

Don't cry, Nokia has developed Nokia Maps since 2007 or so and it's 2010 now. There were no Ovi/Nokia Maps on the previous tablet generations. The Maemo 5 version was just quick and dirty port and the UI had to made from the scratch. Don't expect the Maemo 5 and Symbian versions to be at the same line.

We shall see what happend in the next few months.

This could also mean "dumped" on the community!

At least most of it is open-source. If we are unhappy with how Nokia treats us and the n900 at least we can "take charge" over the platform to develop it ourselves.

i guess someone (marketing) told them to give something before apple launches v4 ... to kill a bit the growing enthusiasm for iphone (and even android)
so ... it's just marketing
i'm afraid n900 is not in direct competition to android and iphone etc ... so ... we might have to wait ... and ... wait ... an maybe .... hope i won't trade my n900 for something else in the meantime

or ... maybe the good people from maemo could make us a surprise

n900 is just too good to be true. seriously, its not made for our kind of market. it has so much things working out of the box, the best mobile web experience, the best free voip integration, the best community support... they built the best hardware, put linux in it and gave it to the community to play with! i can hear jobs and gates and page yelling "this is communism"!

they are working hard to limit it now. because they cant release the perfect device. because its just that our economical system is not made for that. first free calls, now free gps with free updated maps! for all the people that can spend 500 euros! no more fees! c'mon guys you know this cant happen...

No, you're right. You don't follow me at all.
I was commenting on the fact that people has expectations, takes it as a matter of fact, that they should have gotten a free upgrade to Ovi Maps.

You really cannot have such expectations. It is not the norm but the exception whenever some company release payware upgrades which haven't been preannounced.

I am guessing that you had premium software that came with a 1 year free upgrade policy. If so, it was garanteed to have been preannounced as a part of the marketing material. If not, that is an exception and not the rule for aftersales upgrades.

When people rage about unsatisfied expections, those expections should be based on what is the business norm, not on what they would like to have had because it's better elsewhere.
