Hi everybody, we’re looking into the Ovi Store update for the N900 and we’ll update you as soon as we can – Hope that’s OK.
Looks like something's really, really gone wrong again. (3rd time now? How many attempts did they have to get the Store running for the N900?)

I don't understand.. when they announced the new Store will be available on Thursday 27th of May 2010, wouldn't you expect them to have tested the whole thing before so they can be 100% sure it will work once they push the button on Thursday morning?

What did they do?

Start re-writing the application on Thursday, hoping they'd fix a bug or two before midnight?

I could live with waiting for PR1.2 - simply because there was no date given and I assumed it would be released when ready. Good thing.
I can not live with announcing a service for a given date and then not launching it. That's unprofessional. You don't give dates when you're not 100% sure about them.

Can they shut down Ovi for good, please? It's full of good ideas and promises and full of services I would so much want to use, but everything under the Ovi brand is a huge disappointment. It makes you wonder how they manage to get so many inapt people working together in one team. How do they recruit them? "Looking for dropouts who never touched a computer in their whole lives. Free beer Tuesdays and Fridays. Apply within."?

I think its great that the announcing dates. I would like them to do it all the time for products/updates.

For example, Ovi store. If the say. We will update the ovi store with new content and improvments 27th.

The important stuff is that they also give a simple reason if its not working at that date. that is the failure.

I know what you want, but them announcing dates doesn't give you that.

You can have one of two things:

a) They work on something as hard and fast as they can and release when ready. In this case, they can not/should not give a date. (They will have an internal schedule, sure, but it's not a good idea to make that public as it's always subject to change. Things do and will go wrong.)

b) They already finished working on something, it' ready and tested and will be released as soon as somebody in charge pushes the button. The things holding back the release are not directly related to the project, like marketing issues or (in case of the Ovi Store) a dependency on a firmware upgrade. In this case, they can give a date... But then I expect that this date will not change. Telling us the Store will open on May 27th and then not doing anything until now implies that something went wrong again, which in turn means that they did not test the whole thing before... which makes me wonder who those people are and how they work.

Apart from 'fully expected' I agree on this, I have found quite a few jewels through the built-in App Manager.

Nonetheless I'm still curious about the new Ovi Store

Good points, actually when I read that Ovi will be updated after just two days from PR 1.2 release I was surprised...I mean even if store works fine IMO they should have waited for at least a week until people updated to PR 1.2 as we can see in TMO not everyone had a smooth upgrade without full flashing . I dont think everyone upgraded as soon as it was out. Nevertheless Nokia shouldn't have announced a specific day
