Personally I think outsourcing has just gone nuts in general.

All to often the main goal seems to be to seperate the company from the customer.

Little secret if your company is over a certain size and you cannot provide a service below a cost. The only way another company can do it and make a profit is to provide less service.

It seems like a race to the bottom sometimes, doesn't it?

Ok, some update from me:

I've bought my phone from Amazon, so I sent it to their repair-center on Feb 09.
After about 5 days they told me that they could not repair it and would send it in directly to Nokia.

It took about 4 Weeks and I just got it back today. Seems to be a new or refurbished phone.

One thing that worries me is that the IMEI is lower than the IMEI of my original phone.... so I'm very sceptical if they changed anything in the way the USB-port is mounted.

The other thing is that I got this problem now. Seems like I will be sending it in again soon.... Why can't nokia seem to get anything right?!

I've gone through the entire thread, and I can see seven posts that were deleted, each by its original poster. None of those posters entered a reason for deletion, so I can't say why the posters changed their minds.

The post that starts a thread isn't a reply.

In the Uk the company you send your phone back to in Thetford doesn't carry out any repairs, they just send it on to other 3rd party repair houses (probably in cheaper countries) this is apparently called reversed logistics. There job is to ensure it goes to the right one.
I believe regenersis in Nottingham is one of these places, this company also now trains the people working in the Nokia Care Points. I have no idea why Nokia wants to give away all this good business. Outsourcing is nothing but idiocy for lazy business people.

I have just received an update from Nokia. My n900 is at a repair centre abroad waiting for an exchange (unclear whether that "exchange" means a motherboard or a new device), but since they have no stock it is taking a while. Jesus, I hope this will go a bit quicker. At least it's progress in the right direction.

I will keep you posted.

After I get a reply back from the PCB expert I am consulting, I will go ahead and do a post mortem on this.

It's liable to be a long blog article though.

I am with you Texrat. I guess you can finally post that article that's been sitting on your Desktop for ages. I take it your wife will be very happy to have her Texrat back again?

On the serious side, Nokia really has started to honor the warranty and take care of this matter. Wunderbar. Case *almost* closed.

Actually the draft is just a few lines right now, so there's a lot yet to type.
