The problem flareup, is that is simple to unninstall, but if there's a mess of repositories, it will fail, thus is not a specific canola problem, but the way things are organized and user behavior.

We cannot predict every users's action :/

"my two pee on the thing - looks nice, bu without playlist creation/editing functionality doesn't really add fnctionality. video playback messed up and froze device, which is why I'm (attempting) to uninstall."

Yeah, it's a bugfix release, not feature release and features are coming.
Video playback froze? We have been listen for a couple of other users this, and there's a reboot warning (you need the engine to be replaced) so it could be that you had the old engine working, because the player of the video itself is either mplayer or the default media player.

Marcelo

Thanks for your reply Marcelo. I did indeed read the re-boot warning and re-booted prior to trying canola.

as for the uninstall, obviously each user behaviour is different. but what i do not understand is that canola will not uninstall because it uses libecore0-evas (0.9.9.041-maemo.7) and libedje0 (0.5.0.042-maemo1) which it tells me are needed by other apps.

So did canola install new versions of these as part of it's own install or were they already present? In either case, why must I uninstall them to remove canola? and in such a case, must i re-install them for the other apps that apparently need them?

cheers

Flare:

That's the thing.. because of something unknown, that we suspect is the repositorys and some conflicts... the application manager simply doesn't let you unninstall.. and there's nobody else using those applications. It will simply not let you : /

So if you force the unninstall... you will see that no apps needs them.. and everything goes fine in the install.

It's strange I know.. and we really believed : "Ok something is wrong with our packages, let's fix it" and ALL the tests showed that theres no problems, but when combined with some non-official repositories... the app installer goes mad.

We will find out what it is... but it's always complicated.. that's why We are asking users their repository list..

Just for you to have an example: we tested with all devices, flashed with all versions in at least 4 states:

1) virgin : just flashed with the image: all devices install and unninstall just fine
2) virgin + canola 1 : unninstall canola1 and install 2 just fine...
3) virgin + canola 2 : update it just fine
4) some of "our" tablets (last version + apps etc) : updated just fine...

We are every release more worried about peoples device, and our goal is to improve it... but if there not at least traces of a bug... we will really suffer trying to find it..( ok that's our problem I know)

Sorry again for the trouble caused... Our intentions and actions are (IMHO) the best we can do... and to prove that we are here providing support for everyone with trouble.

Best Regards...

ttgowings, not sure if you have figured how to log in as root yet but it can be done as follows:

1) In application manager add the following repository:
http://eko.one.pl/maemo bora user (its a bora user but it provides the package becomeroot which is an easy way to get root access

2) Refresh the package list and install becomeroot

3) Open an xterm window and type sudo gainroot <return>

You will now have root access and should be able to run apt-get.

Here's a bug I found : when pausing a mp3 and then resuming, it will play the sound from where you paused, but the time line will be stuck at 00:00. In absence of bookmarks, this really hurts when listening to 2 hours shows like I do.

Hi E-motion!

If you could post the bug on garage (you don't even need to register if you don't want to) it would be the best way to make sure it will be fixed (because we can track, etc)

Does Canola lock the memory cards? I am having a problem now where I have the USB cable plugged in but I get a message saying cannot browse the external memory card as it is in use... Was wondering if this is the canola media scanner possibly as I have not see this message prior to doing the upgrade late friday.

Scratch that I also installed videocenter at the same time and I just uninstalled it and I can now access my removable media via USB no problem...

One issue I did see tonight was that in order for the Multiple album entries merge to work after updating my music collection on the removable storage I had to quit C2 and restart it... Basically I did the following:

1) Went into C2 and unchecked all local folders
2) Quit C2
3) Refreshed all music on my removable drive
3) Started C2 and told it to scan my removable storage for all music - it took about 5 minutes to scan everything but reported no problems
4) I checked my music within C2 to see if everything scanned correctly, when I looked at the albums I noticed multiple entries
5) I went to the multiple album entry screen and tried to merge the albums, nothing happened each time I tried
6) I closed C2 and reopened it - it took C2 approx 5 minutes to start up as it was scanning my media again...
7) Tried the multiple album entry merge again and it worked perfectly

I noticed another thing too... For the most part the multiple album entries appears to be fixed however I am still seeing quite a few of them in there even after merging using the "Multiple album entry" screen (I had to go through the process twice and even rescanned my media as well).

I also spent a lot of time making sure that the album images were embedded in all of my mp3's today and after running Canola Tuning (the latest version) I still see quite a few albums which do not have images associated with them which is a bit of a disappointment - really hoping for 99.9% population of album covers, instead have only about 55% along with quite a few duplicate album entries...

Is there any way to have an option on the album covers screen to only show albums with art?

Well, I had to run Canola Tuning 3 or 4 times before it had extracted all the album art from my mp3 files. I have a 16 GB card filled with mp3 and it seems that Canola Tuning has trouble handling large libraries correctly.

Sometimes Canola Tuning just dies and once it rebooted the tablet. Try running Canola Tuning a couple of times more and see if it then manages to extract all the album art. Every time I ran Canola Tuning it managed to extract more and more artwork until it was all there.
