One problem I have noticed is that the GPS can get stuck on sometimes (especially with Ovi Maps since if the program isn't closed gracefully it'll leave the GPS on). Disabling the GPS in settings won't do anything, only a reboot will actually shut off the GPS. For now I just don't bother with Ovi Maps and instead use the maemo browser + geolocation add-on.

Edit: Oh another fun Ovi Maps bug, there was this one time I opened it up and after it got a GPS lock it said I was in two places at once. One GPS dot said I was at my home address, while the second GPS dot said I was at the Donut shop (correctly). Yet if you tried to plot or lookup anything it would use the GPS of my home address and not the Donut shop.
So I changed my settings:

location server - supl.google.com
internet connection - epc.tmobile.net

and i am getting a location very quickly - even indoors - now for a better mapping utility...

For me, I don't mind paying for 3G data. The problem is in rural areas, and especially in houses in rural villages, there isn't a data signal half the time, especially when I'm most in need of knowing where I am :-)

Here in the UK, it seems in rural areas there are plenty of places with very poor signal, and in those, often only a subset of networks are available, which means whichever one you've got a SIM for isn't, sometimes. None of the networks are immune to this.

They all claim "99% coverage", but the small print explains it means "99% population", which translates as "all major population centres", not remote rural areas or even outlying villages. While it covers 99% of people at any given time, much more than 1% of people find themselves without a signal at some time or other, when travelling...

I too get this locking problem. It takes more than 10 minutes to identify the location you're in.

How do I change the settings of Location Server? I don't find them under Settings..>Location

You have to scroll the screen up... They do want to make it difficult, dont they?

Thanks Bun. The scroll bar is not so visible when it's more than one screen. Hope they fix it.

My GPS hasn't been working ever since I got the device. I've started up OVI Maps in several places (indoors and outdoors) and have never got a signal.

Ah I was being vague. What I mean is that the GPS itself doesn't need an internet connection. GPS works without AGPS. It just takes longer to acquire satellites.
