your nick makes me think there should be a thread "nokia rocks" ... everyone thanking nokia for n900 and some of the posts should be chosen by nokia to put on their office walls to encourage them to keep this up !

I do not regret it. I am just happy that I get full refund for it
Seriously, I admire Maemo 5 but N900 design and battery is a joke. I will stick with my N810 + another phone as a bluetooth modem untill nokia will fix all the obvious mistakes in N910.

I have even tried to sell my N900 couple of times (without any luck). It's not that N900 isn't amazing gadget, N900 just doesn't have that extra something (personality maybe) that would appeal users feelings.

The alternative would have been Droid (Milestone in Europe). This one has even a name (not in Europe) that suits it looks and design (which is also quaint). N900 has not.

It's not something that is a necessity, especially if one is buying a tool for working and communicating. Then it doesn't make any difference, if you are using Z450 or GLP-6. It would even be a bit silly, if your tool would be called "Cookie".

On the other hand, phone is usually more personal thing, more than just black, cold plastic bar in a grey little room in your office. It goes with you everywhere, people see it with you in public etc. It's a part of you. If the N900 in your life still feels like just a piece of plastic, it just doesn't do everything it could to win your heart. Droid does. =/

E: As a matter of fact, this is one the reasons why competitors have these killer models, IPhone, Droid, Chocolate. They got personality. Or the manufacturers are really trying to make one. Nokia doesn't even try. That makes any Nokia just a phone/tools/mobile computer.

I got mine free on contract.. but after using it for just over a month I would pay £500! its not quite ready now, but it i love 2 play with my gadgets, and the little problems the fone has just makes me have 2 learn more to get them working. Never loved a phone so much as this

As a newcomer to the forums and a n900 owner the reactions to this thread baffle me. A thread like this could have been a opportunity to take a cold hard look at any problems with maemo 5 & n900.

Of which I doubt any of you can call perfect. Nevertheless we see "glowing" comments to it's greatness(which makes me doubt the sincerity of the post) with only a couple obvious(to me)truthful comments. This tells me that some people in this community have some insecurities in regard to the n900 but why ? If it's as good as some have claimed couldn't it stand up on it's own merits ? Without attacking someone ? It just reminds me of the apple community at times and I don't think that's what we are looking for here. No device is without it's flaws, period. I'll offer up my honest heart felt assestment well more of a overview.

The n900 with maemo5 as a platform should be great but the device was launched missing functionality promised or indicated to be coming later. MMS, front facing video cam(cam disappear of tech spec list) are 2 important things that fall into this dilemma. Nokia gave every indication that they were working hard on the n900 and some features didn't make the launch window timeframe but would come after launch. But after launch we get a updates to prepare us for the ovi store.

I can't speak about it too much because I didn't update, but wouldn't a pure bug fix mms update go further rather then access to a service(+ a few updates) that they themselves admit needs to be changed and updated ? When you factor in that some amount of fixes are being being pushed into maemo6 then it starts to get scary if maemo6 isn't made available for n900, I for one would prefer a more stabile maemo5.

I can't go into bugs too much because I refuse the update, I shouldn't have to agree to anything for Nokia to give me the features it advertised. Even if they have to offer it as a straight firmware enabler/driver update with no additional update with the OS that would be more acceptable.

As far as being a phone the n900 lacks some basic functionality. As for being a MID it certainly packs a punch but it's always overshadowed by what it could be. And lastly in regards to redpill it was a mistake to remove it, even though I never really used it the end result is a loss of function and control of my device. If it really had a exploit of some sort then fix the problem and leave the functionality. The whole bricking your device isn't reason enough, I'm a big boy I can take it if I brick my device I'd replace it so add a disclaimer and let it be.

Honestly to me it just had a certain cool factor to it but anyway this is getting too long. So my answer would be for all of the stated reasons and specifics I didn't think it would be fair of me to get into yes I regret my purchase, it's nice but very incomplete.

Naturally... all good and praise must be a rampant lie from paid employees and all bad and negative must be the truth . Nobody ever exaggerates when they complain about something....

Believe it or not... some people do actually like what they bought.. and it does everything they need... you mention no front facing camera - what about people who don't use it? You expect them to come here raving that the device sucks because it lacked something that they never use or care about?

Come on. I don't have the device, and am not saying it's perfect - but I've spent quite a bit of time on these forums (cleaning out the entire New Posts once or twice) - and there is quite a well defined line of things that a group of people dislike and are missing, and in contrast a good number of users here that don't miss any of those missing features at all. Neither group is being any more "truthful".. it's called perspective.

Amazing how a thread like this, which gives a lot of GOOD publicity to the N900, still brings out the people who want to ban things and threaten with torches and pitchforks.

Those of us who are enjoying our N900s should be grateful we have something to post about.
