By the way, those of you who think that FM Transmitter is so useless, you might check out, say, Flying J's on the Americian interstate road system. These combo gas stations/ restaurants/ convenience stores actually sell COMPETING BRANDS of FM transmitters in the stores! This indicates to me that FM transmitters are in more demand than you realize.

I see that you dabble in varius fields. From a technology/business analyst you jumped in the mass psychology as well. Good job on profiling the 60000 people on TMO.
You were more productive when you were randomly spamming the bada tags.

Most of us here are consumers with wants and needs. As it was said previously in this thread the N900 hit the sweet spot for those needs, people are actually buying spare N900s, i might be ill informed but i haven't noticed that phenomenon with a different device.
Taking in to consideration what has been said, what do you think, how hard would it be to hit that same sweet spot again?
My guess is, not that hard.

Pretty much all modern cars have dropped the DIN standard so that you are locked in to their lovely little eco system. It's all part of the upsell strategy. If I had a 2004 model, I could put in any 2 DIN car stereo I want.

Want a new stereo? Why, the next model does have one more feature than the last!



How do you change that?

By researching prior to purchasing... that's how I'd change that.

Oh god. It DOES feel good to say that to somebody.

Seriously, that's very awesome looking. Weird that they didn't have bluetooth, et al. But those are the breaks...

I knew very well what I would get, but I would not get a 4 year older model just to get DIN standard, and I most certainly could not afford a newer one with bluetooth. I don't know if you realize it, but for some, getting a car is a question of money, not bluetooth.

Edit: also, there's always external bluetooth solutions, they cost a lot less than a year newer model.

Maybe a small market for bluetooth or usb FM transceivers then?

Oh btw...
Fun fact about the "...live in an area that is FM radio dense and cannot locate a clear enough signal" part.

Y'all in the US hardly have room for any radio channels, do ya? 0.2 Mhz stepping, 89.9--90.1 etc. Here, we go 89.90, 89.95, 89.00, 89.05... Shame though, that I live in a long coastal country with only 4.5 million people. All those frequency steps and hardly any radio channels to fill them.

There IS a blooming market for Bluetooth to FM transceivers. Unfortunately, they makes our N900s look like a small and precious little trinket.

And in a very roundabout way... you finally get what I've been saying this entire time. Your personal needs outweighed the one feature that would have been a dealbreaker for some consumers if it were not there. Well... your wallet was a factor too.

So now let's look at phones. Not having a hardware keyboard is not a dealbreaker for me. Not having an IR port is not a dealbreaker for me. Hell, not having a content ecosystem isn't a dealbreaker for me. But what is a dealbreaker... no support and no future.

But look around. People are all over these forums saying that people didn't research, or that they didn't get Feature X and they're up in arms about it. And yet... it's not about what feature is there, it's about what features are you willing to cope without.

So you bought an expensive car without bluetooth. I have a 2008 car that I bought with bluetooth. We just had different goals in our rather expensive purchases.

But we also have different tastes in phones too - which, to me is all that's going on here at a very simple, simple layer.

Just tired of everybody shoving their needs down my throat.

Sorry to have done that earlier with you. It was only to prove a point.
