Ahhh. Back from holiday now.....

Regeneris have had my n900 now for a month. Three weeks ago they told me they weren't repairing it and were sending it back. They said the PCB had cracked and wasn't covered by the warranty. MPD have said it will be covered by the insurance so just need handset back to send to them......

Regeneris currently cant locate my handset!

Time for ANOTHER call.....

Hello Everybody,
I have good news! Friday night my mom received a text message on her mobile from the Nokia Repair Centre saying that my mobile phone has arrived and is ready for pickup.

Saturday I got up reasonably early (around 1pm ), discovered I had a massive hangover but decided nonetheless to drive to NRC which unfortunately meant a bit of a drive since it's outside of Brussels.

After arriving there the technician recognised me (since Im one of the only ppl in the whole of Belgium to turn up at a NRC with a faulty USB port ) and told me that Nokia had decided to "Just exchange it", so I was presented with a brand-spanking new device (no box/accessories though)!

The funny thing was: even though the device was brand new, they had decided to put my old battery back in (I had it labelled 'Original' since I own 3 different batteries), but they nicked my pen! No troubles though, they ordered me a new one. 2 Weeks wait. Damn

Anyway, drove home as fast as I could, set the Battery to charge, and after a few minutes booted it up. Since there weren't any updates/apps installed I went ahead and downloaded a few off extras, but at night I noticed that I had reboot problems! The browser kept on crashing my phone > unusable.

Yesterday I flashed it with latest firmware, no troubles since then until I installed a few applications.
- The Password encryption software caused my browser to close/crash at random times, uninstall solved it.
- Google Desktop Search Widget also caused problems with my browser, uninstall solved it.

Both (and possibly a few others) also caused me to loose the portrait rotation mode, both for the browser and the phone application! Now it works again, but Im still trying to figure out which one exactly cause this!

This cut to the chase, I'm happy I have my phone back (for now), and hope that I do not have to return it if the reboot problems don't vanish.

Will stay and join the Texrat-Support-Unit to help out my unfortunate successors, so hit me up if you have any questions!

Regards,
Haus3r

Congratulations Haus3r (finally) . How do the manufacuring dates of your old and new phone compare? Or, if they did not write that down somewhere, how do the IMEI numbers compare (higher/lower) ?

Great news Haus3r. I bet all is forgiven with Nokia now

I had similar issues to you, then i noticed it was because it was on the origional build. So I updates to pr1.1 and now running smoothly. It was nice to get a new unit as I could install a screen protector from the first, so no nastly scratches beneath my protector any more
Chrisp7, get the dyson diected at the hole.

ok so in the end Nokia acknowledged that it's their fault and they are repairing/replacing all the devices?
I want to buy one Wednesday and I've called Nokia to ask them if they know about the problem and if they will fix it, and they didn't wanted to answer me ))
anyhow, the problem with long waiting is restocking, you have to realize that Nokia wasn't expecting this to happen, so 100-200phones that need to be change right away is a big discomfort in their production line, which was set for a low number of devices/day. Because the demand form n900 isn't that big. I still have to wait for one since on the 4th of march it disappeared from the stores (recall or out of stock) and I have to wait until the 24th of march to order one which is supposed to arrive in maximum 1 week.
by the way, don't you have a law saying that if it takes more than 10 working days they have to give you the option to get your money back or a new device + extension of the warranty?

finally
after giving my mobile to repair on january 20 i now sit at home with a replacement unit in my hands.
After numerous phonecalls and hunting nokia to get my mobile repaired.
I wont include all the details, but i asked nokia if they think this mobile is fixed now so the usb should be more sturdy.
I got a little vague responce that if there is a service bulletin about something like this usually its also getting fixed in production. But i could hear from the tone the guy has no idea if my phone is improved or not.
Now when i sit with the phone i have to go trough a lot of software updates. it has the old software from last year on it that wont work with my 3 sim card....
That should be enough to know this phone does not have an improved usb socket, its same date on this one as the one i had before, which lasted for about 3 weeks use...

Maybe new one would tell the current situation about the problem.
Will all N900s have this problem until 2 year warranty is over?

@hau3r:

nice one man! and i can see you've changed your sig!!!

i hope this is the end of your faulty phone! (it is! cause you have a new one!)

Cheers!!!

this is awesome! i'm still hoping that nokia is not kidding with only a "very limited n900 devices" are affected by this issue.

well i bought mine last january 20, 2010. some said that MOST of the complaints re: this issue are in terms of pre-produced devices, and cant determine if my device is in those batch of n900.

but thank Goodness, so far i have no issues (and praying that will not have any....)
