Once you overclock your device, does your N900 still update the firmware automatically?

I was just wondering.. is there a way to OC the graphics chip? PoverVR SGX530? I have a video compressed with xvid at 1.6 Mbps and the playback isn't smooth even though the cpu usage is about 80 % (900/500 MHz kernel). Would overclocking vga help? I know that the extra heat would probably fry the phone, I'm just curious.

hi
ok - did an on-device flash of the kernel :
* do a backup, have a pc nearby and know you are able to flash the n900 with flasher-3.5 - just in case
* on device :
- start "softupd -vv -s" within xterm as root (thats double v)
- open new terminal
- start "flasher --local -f -k <kernel_zimage_file_with_path>"
- you see the flashing - some secs
- type "sync" to be save all is stored to the discs
- type "reboot" and enter to restart

The Pre has an OMAP 3430 rated at 600MHz. There is a 720MHz version of the OMAP3430 available, but it is not in the Pre. There is a different OMAP chip which runs at 800MHz, again it is not in the Pre.
Running a 600MHz OMAP at 720MHz reduces the lifetime from 100K hours to 44K hours according to the manufacturer data-sheet. It is not known how much further running at 800MHz reduces the lifetime. Note that even when running the OMAP3430 at 600MHz, the operating point is referred to in the manufacturer data-sheet as "OPP5: Overdrive".
Note that going from 720MHz to 800MHz increases the core voltage by the same amount as going from 500MHz to 720MHz, so one might expect a similar reduction again, perhaps to ~20K hours, but that is pure conjecture as the data is not publicly available from the manufacturer.

I've just found this info for the Palm Pre which has the same CPU specs like the N900. Can someone confirm the above mentioned numbers?
