It's definitely worth a shot. As it is a small community project for outdated hardware they be more willing to help out. Even if the can just provide builds using scratchbox for us to test amongst ourselves and distribute.

I think that Ittiam stuff will not be available for linux directly from Ittiam. Nevertheless somebody with a bit of understanding how companies (particularly IP selling companies) work could approach them asking for their business models or PR move opportunities from bottom drawer involving FOSS/linux. They might consider something for advertisment and show-off purposes, similar to what Almalence Inc did with BlessN900.

There's also a very tiny chance that they would offer something to HiFo on a commercial contract.

I however think odds are way better that e.g.
http://www.fluendo.com/
could get convinced to contract Ittiam's omap3 decoders and sell them in a way similar to their (former) mp3 linux support. For sure they fit way better into Ittiam's business model. (see http://www.ittiam.com/en/Embedded/Em...Offerings.aspx)

ps: Anne COUVIDAT's answer looks like a template/text-block they send to all inquiries with certain keywords. It evidently is not picking up on the initial info about "Nokia N900", rather assumes there's a "project" which could be everything from a new (bluray) mediaplayer device to a commercial sw for any existing platform. I think freemangordon should not try to pester that lady via skype without prior email giving better info about what "we" are and what's our "project" and waiting for the (unlikely) invitation from Anne COUVIDAT to give her a call. To her freemangordon calling is similar to a video-club giving you a phonecall trying to convince you to become a member.

@freemangordon: if you want to pursue that, I'm willing to help with proofreads and advice. You know how to catch me on IRC.

I don't want to discourage anyone, but is all this theorizing really needed, instead of simply asking? IP in question is so old/obsolete, that either they're interested in getting some bucks for it via Hifo fundraiser, or aren't interested in touching it via long stick.

freemangordon made a valid point about HiFo being most appropriate body to ask, no matter if we're talking about convincing them to so show-off donation, or commercial purchase.

For now, it rather looks like "who should ask them" being biggest problem... It would be pity, if we would never leave this stage

as a core cssu and kp dev i feel it would be best coming from you. any information on the setup (kernel versions, sgx/dsp bridge driver...) would be better provided by someone in the know rather than a hifo rep who may have to refer to someone else for details.

@disappear - who and why did ask you to remove the skype account from the post? could you PM me that mail?
