HI,

Edit: Ok, found the problem, my WiFi box was having problems, I replaced it and the Beta works fine.

With the '06 Beta My WiFi connections seem to be only lasting a
brief time. Sometimes only a few seconds, sometimes 10-100k of web
page.

I am using the same 801.11b+ router as before, DLINK DWL-900AP+

I power cycled the router and the device several times. I tried a few
combinations of 'turns-off' when cover on, and auto disconnect delays.
With no luck.

Anyone else having this problem? I would really like to at least install
the new fbreader - I can see it in the package manager - can't keep
the connection up long enought to download it!

Peter

This really makes me laugh.
People were griping and complaining for them to release the 2006 os, and they said they didn't care if it had bugs ( i did too )
But now, they cry when they install a beta image to their device, which CLEARLY says BETA in the filename.

You were warned, now live with it.

Personally I dont have any problems with the 2006 os, flashing went smoothly, and I'm not going to try downgrading.

I noticed someone said you can't undo the virtual swap? Not true. Mine was undone instantly.

Once again, good job nokia!

Perhaps you should just put your 770 back in the box it came in and return it?

Try following the documentation - Use the flasher-2.0 you can find here

Just to show you how lame my life is I trashed my 2006 install just to reflash to show it could be done. And as others have mentioned, it's not for the timid.

Hmmm... maybe Nokia should have labeled this as a beta release?

Oh wait... they did.

Bricked mine, too. Was trying to flash the new beta and it froze midway through. I gave it almost an hour to unfreeze, but it never did, so I figured "What the hell? I'll just reflash it" and terminated the process. But when I try to reflash, I get:

Code:
USB device found found at bus 001, device address 005-0421-0105-00-00
Unsupported board (id = 0x0000)
...and then it exits to the prompt.

Anybody have any ideas? I'll try to flash it again on a Windows box tomorrow, but that's about all I can think of.

How about different icons for each Opera browser window that's open?

A very nice touch.

Not to mention no more 'musgo' phantom network connection, and combining the Globe and Phone icons (the new phone and WiFi icons look much nicer too).

Nice eye-candy for a beta release.

I tested it last night, my first impressions were like this:

+ The super huge keyboard, (much faster to work with)
+ Jabber/gtalk support is great
+ voip (couldn't test it but it's there)
+ lots of applets, and you can customize the places on your 'desktop'
+ Applicition installer, uses source.list now, apt-get in xterm
+ install wizard, helps you on first boot
+ good for privacy (remove all personal data option in de the browser)
+ list of contact, for IM, email, and additional options if you like...
+ extends memory to mmc card (swap)

- voip I couldn't test it, reason works with gtalk and gtalk is windows only... (atm)
- google applet ... it is neat to have a browser that has the option remove all personal data, but if the google search applets doesn't do the same ...
- unstable (it's beta, reboots sometimes)
- screen gets dirty with the big onscreen keyboard
- flash ... well there is flash but offcourse not flash 7, so no video google

Conclusion... it is an improvement
and there might be a hint that nokia is a bit waiting for google or google for nokia...
there is an option to register a gmail/gtalk account, but for now, it just opens a browser and stays on about:blanc...

I can access to Google talk / chat only when connecting through my phone... Anyone had this problem? Other internet access (browser, email etc.) works flawlessly :-(
